Undeniably, one of the successful Filipino singers nowadays is Moira Dela Torre. Moira Dela Torre is a singer-songwriter from the Philippines known for her soulful voice and heartfelt songwriting. She gained prominence after joining the second season of The Voice of the Philippines in 2014, where she was part of Team Apl de Ap.

Since then, she has released several hit songs, including “Malaya,” “Tagpuan,” “Paubaya,”  “Titibo-tibo,” and others. Moira’s music often explores themes of love, hope, and faith, resonating with a wide audience in the Philippines and beyond. She has become one of the most celebrated and beloved artists in the Philippine music industry.

Many noticed that while she was seated as one of the critics in Idol Philippines season 2, her aura was glowing and her slimmer figure was noticeable. In her Instagram posts, her weight loss was also striking.

What is her secret?

During the recent launch of the endorsed 5-in-1 coffee, Moira’s weight loss journey was discussed. Moira openly admitted that weight was a problem for her in the past and she often faced bullying on social media because of her size. Literally, she was a victim of “body-shaming.” In March 2023, Moira happily announced that she had lost 60 pounds—going from 180 pounds to 120 pounds—after working up her hormones with a doctor for more than a year.

In 2020, during the peak of the pandemic, Moira reportedly tried various types of diets such as vegan, keto, intermittent fasting—you name it, she did it just to lose weight. Unfortunately, Moira said she became “bulimic” out of desperation to lose weight, from 2020 until 2022.

“Bulimic” refers to a person who is suffering from bulimia nervosa, which is an eating disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of binge eating followed by behaviors aimed at compensating for the excessive food intake, such as self-induced vomiting, excessive exercise, or the misuse of laxatives or diuretics.

So, she consulted with an expert to understand the reason behind her weight gain. In an Instagram post on March 10, 2023, she revealed the reasons why she struggled to lose weight. Through a “hormone test,” she discovered that “stress, depression, and misdiagnosed PCOS” were contributing factors. At that time, not only were her weight issues resolved, but also her other health issues such as “hypothyroidism,” “estrogen dominance,” and “infertility.”

“When I stopped putting pressure on myself and when I just started allowing myself to just be, doon parang kumalma ‘yong katawan ko, and I started losing weight gradually,” she said during the interview.

Moira delivered a message to those who, like her, have experienced bullying because of their weight.

“And to the people who are trying to lose weight, to the people who are trying to not care about the bullying, I want you to care more about what you think about yourself, because that matters more
”

“I had to take so much time to think that I was beautiful before I saw any change physically, and then the physical change happened.”

“We are beautiful and ang dami mo nang magagandang traits bago ka pa
bago mo pa makuha yung goal mong weight, coz weight can fluctuate, but your heart, that’s where real change happens
” she added.

It is said that Moira’s slimming journey has affected her disposition in life, as she is now happier and more confident.
