Previously, when his project was unveiled, it received a range of responses, with some online users raising doubts about the structure’s sustainability. Slater subsequently explained that they underwent approximately 300 revisions to achieve “the best possible practice” and consulted with sustainability experts.
In his YouTube vlog, Slater discussed the background story of his latest project named The Rise at Monterrazas.
“We wanted it to be architecturally forward, something that Cebu or the Philippines has never seen before. We wanted it to be not just maganda tingnan but very, very usable din and may [add] benefit to the user. And lastly because we are building on the mountain side, we want the project to be sustainable as possible,” he said.
Slater mentioned that the design takes inspiration from a famous natural feature in the Philippines—the Banaue Rice Terraces.
“We got inspired by the Banaue Rice Terraces. So instead of a normal building which is typically straight up and down. we kind of like worked with the terrain. We just pushed everything towards the terrain and just followed the flow of the mountain so this is the whole concept behind this one,” he explained.
“We pushed everything towards the mountain and just worked with the terrain. So each and every space was pushed towards the back and with that we were able to create this free-flowing design. But not only that, this whole structure is spread out across the mountain making it a whole lot safer and less ‘yung environmental impact natin,” he also added.
