Stormzy and Ezra Collective Praise Jesus While Honouring God at the BRIT Awards

The BRIT Awards 2025 became a powerful platform for faith expression as rapper Stormzy and jazz band Ezra Collective openly praised Jesus Christ during their acceptance speeches. While award shows often see artists thanking a wide range of inspirations, these heartfelt acknowledgments stood out for their bold proclamation of Christian faith.
Ezra Collective, the acclaimed jazz band, took home the prestigious Band of the Year award. Frontman Femi Koleoso began his speech with a clear declaration:
“First and foremost, let me thank my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”
This opening statement set the tone for a speech that celebrated not only faith but also the power of music in shaping young lives. Koleoso went on to praise youth clubs, teachers, and schools that foster music education.
“The solution lies with giving a young person a trumpet,” Koleoso said. “When you do that, you give them a dream, an aspiration, and a goal.”
His words highlighted the transformative power of music, a message deeply tied to his own journey with Ezra Collective. Formed in 2012 through the jazz program Tomorrow’s Warriors, the band’s success is rooted in mentorship and community.
Rapper Stormzy’s speech was equally impactful. While accepting the Best Grime/Hip Hop, Rap Act award, Stormzy opened by repeatedly thanking Jesus:
“Firstly, I say thank you Jesus, thank you Jesus, thank you Jesus.”
He followed this with a powerful statement of conviction:
“I want to be very clear about the God I serve — that’s Jesus Christ, Yahweh, the God of Abraham — that’s my God.”
Stormzy didn’t stop there. He went on to read Psalm 138:8:
“The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.”
In a moving conclusion, Stormzy reflected on his spiritual journey:
“My Jesus is doing a work in me, and He ain’t done yet… Thank you, Lord, for using me as a vessel.”
This public display of faith echoed Stormzy’s previous works, notably his gospel-inspired track Blinded By Your Grace Pt 2 and his song Holy Spirit, which speaks to trusting God’s guidance.
The significance of these speeches extends beyond the BRIT Awards stage. In a culture where faith can often be sidelined or watered down, both Stormzy and Koleoso’s open declarations of belief encouraged other Christian creatives to speak boldly about their faith.
For Christians navigating secular industries, Stormzy and Koleoso’s courage offers an inspiring blueprint — a reminder that one’s beliefs can be shared authentically, even in high-profile spaces.
As these two artists continue to excel in their respective fields, their public witness to Jesus Christ stands as a powerful example of how faith can flourish in creative spaces. Christians can celebrate moments like these as affirmations that no platform is too large, and no moment too public, to give glory to God.
