Did aswangs vandalize Trese billboards? Or was this all just a publicity stunt?
Photos of the supposedly vandalized billboards promoting Netflix‘s anime series, based on the Filipino fantasy crime-horror comic book made rounds on social media, 5 days before its premiere on the streaming platform.

One of the messages wrote, “This is our city,” while another had a spray-painted message which read, “Siyudad namin ito. Layas.”

Netflix posted the pictures of the billboards on their Facebook page and captioned them: “What kind of monster would do this??? If you see something, say something – we’re going to find out who did this.”

In another post, the streaming giant also said, “Looks like we found the culprits. But don’t be afraid. Trese’s coming to let them know they can’t mess with our city.”

One may note that the story revolves around a detective, who deals with crimes committed by supernatural beings, like kapres and engkantos.
Some netizens took to social media, and shared their thoughts on the issue, and seemed convinced that this was all just a publicity stunt.
One wrote, “Galeng! I thought there was something wrong with the billboard.”

Another said,”Way to go with their publicity. Now everyone is curious. I hope this gets a lot of views.”

A netizen also praised those who thought of this idea and stated, “Those people in the advertising department deserve a raise!”

One agreed and commented, “I love this advertising strategy. They deserve a bonus. Well played.”

Lastly, a user spoke up and stressed, “Well played Netflix, well played. Kudos to the advertising agency peeps behind it. Big brains. I love it!
