Another record-breaking news for Star Cinema unveiled!

Formally announced by Star Cinema and ABS-CBN, “Rewind,” starring Kapuso Primetime King and Queen Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera, is now deemed the “highest-grossing Filipino movie of all time,” not only in the 2023 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) but also in the history of Philippine cinema.

According to ABS-CBN News, “Rewind” has raked in ₱815 million in Philippine domestic sales, and with international sales included, it is expected to surpass ₱845 million.

On the other hand, “Hello, Love, Goodbye” (HLG) starred by Kapamilya Star Kathryn Bernardo and Kapuso Star Alden Richards in 2019 pre-pandemic era, holds a local record of ₱691 million, but when considering its global earnings, it reaches ₱881 million.

This means that HLG still retains the title when it comes to overall sales. However, with the current ₱845 million earnings of “Rewind,” there is a possibility of matching or even surpassing it, especially if international screenings continue.

Last Wednesday, January 17, the production team and some cast members of “Rewind,” including ABS-CBN executive Mark Lopez and lead cast Marian Rivera, celebrated at the top of one of the ABS-CBN buildings. In the background, the station’s tower and the building with the station’s name prominently displayed can be seen. They also attended a thanksgiving mass for the success of the record-breaking movie.

On his Facebook post, Dingdong Dantes expressed his happiness and gratitude about this project.

“When we joined the MMFF, my prayer was for the strength to be an effective storyteller, aiming to touch lives, particularly during this holiday season. The other prayer was for the revival of vibrancy in local cinema, a return to its glory days,” he said.

“Now, as the curtain falls on the MMFF, I extend a salute to the ten films that courageously shared their beautiful stories. These films are destined to be timeless pieces, outliving us all. It’s an honor to be part of the historic 49th MMF.”

“To our partners— @starcinema and @aptentertainment.ph, maraming salamat sa tiwala.”

“A heartfelt thank you to the audience and moviegoers for believing in the magic of movies and for appreciating these films during the festival. Here’s to celebrating the vitality and resounding success of this year’s festival—a triumphant return for local cinema!”

“My gratitude extends to the producers, filmmakers, writers, talents, crew, distributors, promo teams, production team, and organizers—each an indispensable part of this cinematic tapestry. Special appreciation to Team Rewind, led by Direk Mae Cruz-Alviar, the captain of the ship, and my fellow cast members Jordan, Pepe, Tita Coney, Tito Ariel, Tito Lito, Sue, Joross, Pamu, Via, Ina, Chamyto, Majoy, Jc, Shanaia and Neil.”

“And finally, thanks to you, Marian, my leading lady on and off camera. Telling this story is a gift, and successfully sharing it with millions fulfills a mission. Accomplishing this mission alongside you, my wife is a rare privilege, one that I believe comes once in a lifetime. I am genuinely grateful for this extraordinary experience, forever holding a special place in my heart.”

“Mabuhay ang ating Pinoy filmmakers, at mabuhay ang Pelikulang Pilipino.

‘The place God calls you to is where your deep gladness and the deep hunger of the world meet.’ – Frederich Buechner.”

Marian also expressed her happiness via appreciation Facebook post for “Lods” (referring to the Lord used in the movie).  “Maraming salamat sa inyong lahat. Ang biyayang ito’y galing kay Lods, at nagpapasalamat kami na naging instrumento ang buong team para maikuwento ito. 🙏🏻 Yakap sa inyong lahat,” she said.
