From Addiction to Redemption: Ben Fuller Shares His Story of Surrender and Faith

Chart-topping Christian artist Ben Fuller is no stranger to brokenness. From growing up on a Vermont dairy farm to singing in honky-tonks, his journey took a radical turn — from addiction and self-destruction to a life fully surrendered to Jesus. Today, his music speaks to anyone who’s ever struggled, reminding listeners that no one is beyond God‘s grace.
For most of his life, Ben longed for something deeper — a father’s love, a sense of purpose, peace. But it wasn’t until he was 30 that he discovered the true source of it all. “Vermont is only, like, two percent Christian,” Fuller says. “I only knew the name of Jesus as a swear word.”
After years of numbing his pain with drugs and up to 20 beers a night, his path shifted when a family invited him to church. That single invitation marked the beginning of everything.
“I heard the Gospel for the first time, and it knocked me down,” he recalls. “Jesus came into my life like a wrecking ball.” From that moment, Fuller made a choice — he walked to the altar and surrendered. Over the next few months, he stopped drinking, stopped swearing, and turned away from his past. “Everything changed,” he says. “I lost all my friends, and I was lonely for a while, but I had Jesus.”
His faith journey also transformed his music. Formerly chasing a country music dream, he was soon signed by a Christian label. His debut single “Who I Am” soared to No. 1, opening doors he never imagined. He’s since toured with Casting Crowns, Zach Williams, and Big Daddy Weave — sharing the message of hope that radically changed his life.
Still, the walk hasn’t been easy. After a painful breakup, Fuller was tempted to return to his old ways. “I wanted to turn to the bottle. I even drove past the bar,” he confesses. “But the Lord kept me praising Him.” That moment became the seed for his new single, “Turn,” a vulnerable anthem born out of pain and perseverance.
Fuller now spends time ministering in prisons, seeing his former self in the eyes of inmates. “They’ve got freedom behind bars,” he shares. “Jesus gave that to them. He gave it to me too.”
With his tattoos, gritty voice, and powerful testimony, Fuller defies first impressions. But it’s precisely this authenticity that draws people in. “I just want everyone to know, no matter what you’ve done or what you look like — if you say yes to Jesus, He will change your life.”
As he gears up to release new music and hit the road on The Jesus Music Tour, Ben Fuller’s message remains unwavering: Jesus saves — completely, powerfully, and forever.
