Korina Sanchez Leads the Cool and Witty Gang of TikTalks

In a media conference of her newest show, Korina Sanchez is vocal in her agreement that indeed, “the landscape in the industry has changed so much.”
“Merong mga bagay na nakakalungkot at meron ding mga bagay na masaya,” she said. She recognizes the emergence of a lot of content creators across a variety of social media platforms.
This is what made her team up with talent manager extraordinaire and producer Jojie Dingcong in creating TikTalks, a new talk show on One PH which will feature 5 different points of view by veteran journalist Korina and other prominent personalities: G3 San Diego (Mega Entertainment’s first editor and social media influencer), Kakai Bautista (film, TV, and theater actress-comedienne-singer), Pat P-Daza (columnist and radio commentator connected with several outlets), and Alex Calleja (TV writer and stand-up comedian).
She wanted to do something different from the other talk shows she did before. “Parang gusto ko namang makasama yung mga medyo sira…yung me konting luwag,” joked Korina. The former news anchor wanted the vibe of the show to be as casual as when you are playing mahjong or drinking wine.
Pat P revealed that there is real wine served on the show but she prefers to drink water. “Grabe ka ha. Baka sabihin nila, manginginom tayo dito,” Korina jested. “Eh si Pat P barkada ko talaga sa kainan ito kaya alam kong hindi na niya kailangang magsalita. Kailangan lang niyang tumawa,” she added.
However, that does not mean that this is a totally no-holds-barred environment. “I have to moderate. Otherwise, we will end up in jail,” she said. She reiterates that she knows the law so she knows what they can do not to break it. Most of the cast members jokingly point to Pat P as the culprit behind certain utterances that tread the grey area.
The same can’t be said when she deals with trolls online. She admits to toying with them as soon as it’s obvious upon checking that the account was only made for bashing people on social media. “Kung hindi totoong tao, bakit ko siya papakinggann” she reasons. But, she welcomes intelligent discussions. The light-hearted show will feature controversial or taboo topics, as well as trending issues.
The original concept of the who’s is to feature 5 women of varying sizes and shapes from different backgrounds. Of the 4, it was G3, a transgender woman, who was the first one on the list, since Jojie, the co-producer of the show, as well as her manager, thought she’d be a good fit, since she had about a hundred episodes of interviewing actors via Instagram live during the pandemic.
Those sessions were such a hit that several of the stars’ revelations were even picked up by mainstream media outlets.
Korina Sanchez has this important nugget of wisdom concerning discussing other people and situations: “You can make or break with a word, right? You can make or break a life, a reputation, a business…with an utterance. I learned that the hard way as I went through 25 years of radio and journalism. Siyempre, pag bata ka, medyo mapangahas ka. Dami ko na ring lessons about that and…so I’ve learned to be more careful in circumspect. So, yung maling pagmamarites, yung talagang nakakapanira. Atsaka, yung nag-iimbento. Yung malinaw na hindi totoo, pero, iniimbento mo na lang.”
TikTalks will premiere on December 3 and air every Saturday at 8:00PM one PH. There will be a simulcast on TV5 and Radyo Singko 92.3 News FM (with catch-up airing on One News every Sunday at 7:00 pm starting December 4).
