Fans have always been curious about the relationships of people in the public eye, especially when the people involved are both A-list celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck. Which is why it’s no surprise that it becomes a trending topic whenever some celebrity couples start dating, break up or even have a sweet reunion after being separated for years. One of the most recent celebrity couples reuniting is the ‘Bennifer’ couple — Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, who were previously in a relationship and were broken off for some time now.

Lately, however, things seem to be going smoothly since they reunited, as they were spotted in several places being sweet with one another and having a good time. It has been months since they were seen in various locations together, sometimes with their family in tow. Want to reminisce and get to know this couple better? Meeting on the set

It was during the filming of the movie Gigli in 2002 when the pair first laid eyes on each other. Jennifer was married to her second husband then, Cris Judd, whom she filed for divorced with shortly afterward according to Us magazine. The divorce was finalized the year after.

The engagement

By November of 2002, the pair announced that they were engaged. It was also reported that Ben proposed to the singer with a pink diamond ring that was 6-carats. During the same month, the video for Jenny from the Block by Jennifer Lopez was released, and she was with Ben Affleck where the two showcased their sweetness. It was also worth noting that the media was all over the place and full of excitement for the couple.

Calling off the wedding

By 2003, the two starred in another movie titled Jersey Girl. In the same year, just days before the wedding that was anticipated by many, the pair suddenly called the whole thing off. It was stated that the attention from the media was the reason, in what was released as a joint statement by the couple on ABC: “Due to the excessive media attention surrounding our wedding, we have decided to postpone the date… When we found ourselves seriously contemplating hiring three separate ‘decoy brides’ at three different locations, we realized that something was awry.” However, the two remained a couple.

The split

After a few months, the two announced that they have gone their separate ways. While the media was still all over the couple, they were not very public about the reason for their breakup, and requested a private time for everyone as they deal with the matter.

After the relationship

In 2008, Ben Affleck opened up a bit about the relationship on the show Live years after. He stated, “I think Jen and I made a mistake in that we fell in love, we were excited and maybe too accessible, I don’t think either of us anticipated the degree to which it would take on a world of its own.”

While in March of 2016, Jennifer Lopez told Jess Cagle, “I think different time, different thing, who knows what could’ve happened, but there was a genuine love there.”

Keeping in touch

As he was being interviewed by the New York Times reporter in February last year, Ben said that he thinks Jennifer Lopez should have won an Oscar for the movie Hustlers. He said, “She should have been nominated. She’s the real thing…I keep in touch periodically with her and have a lot of respect for her. How awesome is it that she had her biggest hit movie at 50? That’s fucking baller.”

In 2021

It was in April when the media has noticed Ben in an SUV where it was reported that he was on his way to the Jenny from the Block star. Around May, the speculations that the power couple have gotten back together have boomed. After Jennifer had gotten out of her last relationship, she was spotted with Ben Affleck once again. Us magazine reported the two spending some time together, and after, were spotted taking a trip to Big Sky, Montana. A source told Us: “They looked very happy together. It was just the two of them on vacation together. Big Sky is a special place to Ben.”

Romantic couple

It seems that the two seem to be having the time of their lives as they enjoy moments together, which are sometimes captured by the media. According to a source reported by Entertainment Tonight when they were seen in a gym: “They went to do their workouts with separate trainers, but were not trying to hide their relationship by any means. They stayed close to each other while working out and were hugging, being playful together, and shared a kiss in between sets…It was clear to everyone that they have intense chemistry and were having fun together.”

Sweet reunion

When June rolled around, the two were also spotted in Miami, still as sweet as they have been in the past month. According to the New York Post, JLo had rented the place, which was worth $130,000 a month from jewelry designer Paul Morelli, spanning 11 bedrooms, a spa, a pool and more. They were also seen in the Pendry hotel in Los Angeles according Page Six, where the two had a romantic dinner date. 

Making it official

After being seen on various places being sweet, it was on Instagram when Jennifer posted about their relationship that made fans gush. Alongside sexy beach photos, she posted a picture of them kissing, leaving her followers happy for her and full of excitement. A source told People magazine regarding the couple: “Even though their split many years ago was devastating for Jennifer, she has never had a bad word to say about Ben. She believes that it just wasn’t meant to be then and feels like they’ve been given a second chance.”
