More than 80 women from different parts of the world gathered on the morning of November 14 at the Cove in Okada Manila to strut their stuff in front of the press people.
The bright yellow swimwear worn by the Miss Earth 2022 candidates were designed by a Filipino, Ricky Abad. The program was hosted by Belize’s Destiny Wagner, the reigning queen, and Karen Ibasco, a 2017 queen.
2019 Miss Earth Nellys Pimentel surprised and delighted everyone by gracing the event. 2019 was the last year there was a physical competition and Pimentel is the first winner from Puerto Rico. For the past two years, the pageant was held virtually.
This year’s competition was a “hybrid” setup by the organizer Carousel Productions, where the meet-and-greet of all the candidates grouped per continent, was held online around the last week of October. The Miss Earth 2022 candidates were given the chance to present their advocacy as fauna, as well as let the viewers know their background and interests.
19-year-old psychology student Jenny Ramp, who hails from Tarlac, is the Filipino delegate. “Press favorites” were chosen from different regions and were bestowed gold medals. This was done via secret ballots from the members of the press present.
Here are the winners of the special awards: Sheridan Motlock from Australia (Asia and Oceania), Andrea Aguilera from Colombia (Americas), Esther Ajayi from Nigeria (Africa), and Merel Hendriksen from Netherlands (Europe). There was no formal question and answer question afterwards. A generous buffet spread was served to the guests and press people after the program.
The candidates did not eat right away and opted to mingle with the members of the press by the poolside, where they showed how much fun they are having in the pageant by dancing while the Miss Earth 2022 theme song is playing. It is important to note that Cove Manila in Okada will also be the venue of the Miss Earth 2022 Coronation night. Carousel Productions, Inc., which has been the sole organization managing the Miss Earth and Miss Earth Philippines pageants, formed the pageant in 2004.
Ramon Monzon is the current president but it is Lorraine E. Shuck, the executive vice president, who is hands-on when it comes to the pageant activities.
