Tim Allen Finishes Old Testament, Starts New Testament

Hollywood actor Tim Allen has officially completed reading the Old Testament, marking a significant milestone in his year-long journey through the Bible. The 71-year-old, best known for his roles in Home Improvement, Last Man Standing, and The Santa Clause franchise, shared his reflections on social media, calling the experience “humbling” and “overwhelming.”
Now, with just three days into the New Testament, Allen is embracing the next phase of his biblical exploration with renewed curiosity and dedication.
Allen first revealed his commitment to reading the Bible in August of last year, stating that he had never taken the time to thoroughly read and understand it. Choosing the Jerusalem Bible, a Roman Catholic translation, he made his way through the Old Testament, sharing occasional updates on his progress.
By October, he had finished the book of Ezekiel and was moving into Daniel, remarking on the challenge of interpreting the divine messages contained in the texts.
As he completed the Old Testament, Allen reflected on the journey, emphasizing the discipline required to stay focused and truly absorb the lessons of Scripture. His announcement that he was “three days into the New Testament” signified a continued dedication to deepening his understanding of Christianity.
Allen’s interest in faith is not new. He has openly spoken about his belief in God, though he has expressed skepticism about organized religion. His spiritual journey began early in life but deepened after personal hardships, including the loss of his father in a tragic accident and his own legal troubles in the late 1970s.
Serving time in prison led him to reevaluate his path, and he has since credited God—whom he refers to as “The Builder”—with guiding him through life’s challenges.
In past interviews, Allen has described how he often asks God, “What did You want me to do?”—a question that reflects his ongoing search for meaning and purpose. His decision to read the entire Bible appears to be part of this larger quest for spiritual insight.
Beyond his personal beliefs, Allen has been vocal about incorporating faith into his work. In 2022, while developing The Santa Clauses for Disney+, he insisted on recognizing the religious significance of Christmas, stating, “It’s Christ-mas. It literally is a religious holiday.”
He has also portrayed faith-based themes in Last Man Standing, a show that often featured conversations about values and belief in God.
Currently, Allen is starring in Shifting Gears, a new sitcom that premiered in January. Despite his busy career, he continues to share updates on his Bible reading, showing that his commitment to faith is not just a passing interest but a deeply personal pursuit.
As he delves into the New Testament, Allen’s journey serves as a reminder of the enduring power of Scripture to inspire and transform. His reflections on faith and perseverance resonate with many who seek wisdom and guidance in their own lives.
