Trainee Models Stun at the Farah Models Camp Event Donning Designer Ensembles

Last October 28, Farah Models Camp had their culmination activity as part of the 1st Manila International Fashion Week. The trainee models strutted their stuff wearing the creations of professional Filipino designers during the first part of the program, the “Designer Show” at Okada Manila.

Our favorite designs were from Happy Andrada, La Mujer House of Silk, and Steph Verano. Here are the fabulous 7 from these 3 Filipino designers and why we think they are awesome:

1. Life is a puzzle and so is this outfit. The unconventional silhouette of the white top is not for the faint-hearted. The maroon shorts, which is not disembodied like the top, highlights the hips and serves as a nice contrast to its pair.

2. This dress reminds one of both a cold spring dusk in the forest surrounded by lots of flowers. The top part of the outfit looks very comfy while the bottom part is edgy. The little folded layers there must have taken a lot of effort to complete.

3. A cake, a fan, or a mermaid’s tail? These are the images that come to mind with this dainty chiffon tube dress. The vertical lines have a slimming effect while the flower accent add a feminine touch to the masculine color of the dress.

4. Even though it is a denim apparel, it does not look heavy on the eyes. The several narrow lines on the right (audience pov), especially the one on the middle, reminds one of friction ridges. The white appendages at the side of the hips give a bouncy feel to the whole look, as well as an illusion of wings.

5. The design is so meta since you have a silhouette perfect for dog days with a Doberman on it. The shimmery sides of the top plus the uneven yellow pattern at the bottom of the skirt make this outfit really stand out. Collared crop top? Yes, please!

6. Whether you look at this shocking pink long dress as faux artwork or gemstone, it will most likely depend on the emotion you are feeling right now. This is just the kind of dress you’d wear to a formal dinner where an ex is present, or where a mean girl from high school is there to size you up. The silhouette which slims you down and hides your bulges is admirable, yet what fascinates me is the way the dress screamed “fierce” the first time I set eyes on it.

7. It isn’t easy to make a fashionista look for guys. There’s a danger of it ending up either too generic or too loud. However, this ensemble is simple yet metaphorical. It is like an ode to the fusion of Filipino and American heritage. The top’s print has the Filipino trademarks: Jose Rizal, coconut tree, tricyle, jeepney, and Luneta. The bottoms are stylized high waist jogger pants, a very American type of clothing. The designer did add ambiguity to its silhouette by making the upper part of the jogger pants look like a skirt.
