In 2026, the United States will celebrate 250 years since its founding. NYC will celebrate in a big way as the nation’s first capital, the birthplace of American government, and the place where the Bill of Rights was written—as well as placing a focus on the untold stories of Black and Indigenous communities and their impact of NYC’s history. Courtesy, America250RECREATIONAL VENUES Gansevoort Peninsula | Meatpacking District, Manhattan | Ongoing Now open, Gansevoort Peninsula is Manhattan’s first public beach. Located on the shores of the Hudson River near Chelsea and the Meatpacking District, the beach provides a relaxing area for sunbathing and leisure activities. Hudson River Park’s Pier 97 | Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan | 2024 Currently under construction, the new expansion of Pier 97 at Hudson River Park will feature a playground with water spray features, an activity field and an all-ages slide for the young and the young at heart. New York City Football Club Stadium | Willets Point, Queens | 2027 As part of a private-public partnership, NYCFC will fully finance and build New York’s first professional soccer stadium. The Willets Point project will have 25,000 seats, a new public school, 40,000 square feet of public open space and will bring 2,500 affordable homes to the community. The project will also add an estimated 16,000 jobs and a predicted $6 billion to the City’s economy. Gran Fondo NY World Championship | New York City Metropolitan Area | May 19, 2024 Cyclists from almost 100 nations across the world will head to New York City to race across the George Washington Bridge in a once-in-a-lifetime experience. ICC Men’s T20 World Cup | New York City Metropolitan Area | June 3–12, 2024 New York City will host eight matches of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at the new modular stadium, Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, the first of its kind for cricket. The 34,000-seat stadium will also hold the high-profile tournament between India and Pakistan on June 9. New York Sail Grand Prix | New York Harbor | June 22–23, 2024 The international sailing competition returns to the City this summer as part of its 12-race global circuit across four continents. CONMEBOL Copa America | New York City & New Jersey | June 25, June 27 & July 9, 2024 Copa America has announced New York/New Jersey as one of the host cities for the CONMEBOL. New York/New Jersey will host three games at MetLife Stadium on June 25, June 27 and the semifinals on July 9. Courtesy, Gran Fondo NY Work ChampionshipFIFA Club World Cup/Mundial de Clubes FIFA | New York City & New Jersey | June/July 2025 FIFA has announced it will launch an expanded version of the Club World Cup featuring 32 teams with tournaments taking place every four years. New York City/New Jersey will be one of the host cities in the US to host the first edition of the tournament. The Army-Navy Football Game Presented by USAA | New York City & New Jersey | 2026 New York City, along with the state of New Jersey, will be the host city for The Army-Navy Football Game presented by USAA in 2026. The game will be hosted at the Meadowlands Complex as part of the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and will be the 19th time the game has been played in New York or New Jersey. Sail4th 250 | New York City & New Jersey | July 3-8, 2026 New York City and New Jersey will host the capstone events to kick off the 250th anniversary of America’s Independence. From July 3 through July 8, millions across the nation will witness the largest-ever international flotilla of ships and vessels sailing into the port of New York and New Jersey. The six-day celebration will also host an array of festivities including firework displays, food festivals, a special Fleet Week and more. FIFA 2026 World Cup | New York City & New Jersey | 2026 FIFA has announced New York New Jersey as the host city for the 2026 World Cup final. In addition to the final, NYNJ will host seven games on June 13, June 16, June 22, June 25, June 27, June 30, July 5 and the final on July 19, 2026. The Escape Game Brooklyn features six unique and family-friendly games, including its newest, Cosmic Crisis, as well as Prison Break, its hardest, for those up for the challenge. Seaport Fit | Seaport, Manhattan | March 2024 Locals and visitors alike can now enjoy free year-round workouts at the Seaport, as Seaport Fit extends its popular seasonal program. Starting March 2, the Seaport will partner with HIIT the Deck, a high-intensity boxing-inspired gym, for complimentary classes combining boxing, core, and conditioning, bringing a vibrant fitness experience to Lower Manhattan, even in the winter.
