The Southeast Asia Esports Federation (SEAEF), in collaboration with its business partner PLAY UNION, announces SEA ESPORTS GAMES & FESTIVAL: UNION®, a new regional initiative combining a flagship 11-nation esports championship with a fully gamified entertainment festival. Designed to bring Southeast Asia together through competition, culture and play, the initiative will create new opportunities for national teams, communities and commercial partners to connect through shared regional experiences.

Owned by SEAEF, the initiative aims to establish a dedicated regional esports championship as a major sporting occasion in its own right, placing esports at the centre of the experience while celebrating national representation, competitive excellence and the continued development of esports across Southeast Asia. Complementing the championship, the festival will bring together music, creators, technology, food and interactive entertainment, creating an inclusive experience that showcases Southeast Asia’s diverse cultures and welcomes audiences beyond the traditional esports community.

“Southeast Asia is home to exceptional esports talent, passionate communities and a remarkable diversity of cultures. Together with our memberfederations and PLAY UNION, our ambition is to establish a flagship regional championship where players can proudly represent. their nations and compete on a dedicated esports stage. Beyond competition, we envision a platform that brings communities closertogether, celebrates the next generation of talent and creates opportunities for young people to showcase Southeast Asia’s creativity and potential,”

A FESTIVAL EVERYONE CAN PLAY

SEA ESPORTS GAMES & FESTIVAL: UNION® will introduce a fully gamified experience that extends participation beyond the competitive arena and throughout the festival. Whether visitors arrive to support their national teams, connect with their favourite creators, experience live entertainment or discover emerging technologies, the festival will offer opportunities to engage, explore and participate.

Through interactive challenges, discovery trails and rewards, visitors will be encouraged to navigate the festival, connect with fellow attendees and engage with creators and participating brands. Designed to be accessible to audiences of all backgrounds, the experience will invite participation regardless of gaming expertise, transforming visitors from passive spectators into active participants.

Central to this experience is UNION®, which serves as both the festival’s consumer-facing identity and its integrated digital platform. Through the platform, visitors will be able to register, participate in games and activities, collect points and rewards, and engage with the wider festival community. By connecting experiences before, during and beyond the physical event, UNION will provide a foundation for sustained participation and community engagement across Southeast Asia.

While national team competition will remain the sporting centrepiece, underpinned by fair play and high standards of event delivery, the wider festival programme will bring an additional dimension of entertainment, discovery and cultural exchange. Together, these elements will create an environment where competitive excitement extends beyond the stage into shared experiences and celebrations.

CONNECTING COMMUNITIES THROUGH GAMING CULTURE

Southeast Asia’s rapidly expanding gaming landscape presents significant opportunities for regional engagement. According to Niko Partners’ 2025 research, the six Southeast Asian markets covered in its analysis — Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam — are projected to collectively surpass 300 million gamers and generate more than US$6 billion in annual games revenue by 2029. This growing audience underscores the potential for brands and creators to establish meaningful connections through interactive, experience-led engagement. As a cultural force that transcends geographical boundaries, gaming provides a common ground for communities across Southeast Asia. The festival will build on this shared passion, connecting players and fans with creators, developers, publishers, universities and industry partners from across the region.

SEAEF will provide the competitive foundation through its ownership of the SEA Esports Games and Festival intellectual property, supported by its regional federation network and established connections with national esports communities. As SEAEF’s business partner, PLAY UNION will drive the development of the festival’s participatory, entertainment and commercial dimensions. Together, both organisations will shape a regional experience that reflects Southeast Asia’s diverse interests, creativity and cultural identity.

“Our ambition is to build on the excitement of national team esports and transform it into an experience that resonates with a much broader audience. Whether visitors are drawn by the competition, theirfavourite creators, live entertainment orthe opportunity to connect with friends, we want every individual to discovertheir own way to participate. Gaming provides the common language, but it is the connections, interactions and shared experiences that will define the festival,”

A REGIONAL STAGEFOR THE HOST COUNTRY

Each edition of SEA ESPORTS GAMES & FESTIVAL: UNION® will provide the host country with a regional platform to showcase its cultural identity, creative talent and innovation. Local game developers, technology businesses, universities, artists, and food and lifestyle brands will be integrated into the wider festival experience alongside national team competition.

By connecting local industries and creative communities with regional audiences and commercial partners, the festival will contribute to the host country’s digital economy and creative industries, stimulate tourism opportunities and strengthen cultural and economic connectivity across Southeast Asia.

AN INVITATION FOR BRANDS TO PLAYA PART

SEAEF and PLAY UNION invite brands to become active participants in the festival ecosystem, creating meaningful opportunities to engage Southeast Asia’s gaming communities through immersive, interactive experiences.

Within the gamified festival environment, brand experiences will become missions, activations will serve as checkpoints, and collaborative challenges will unlock rewards. This approach will integrate brands into the visitor journey, transforming conventional brand interactions into opportunities for active participation while providing measurable engagement through participation rates and challenge completion.

Partnership opportunities will extend across technology, telecommunications, financial services, travel, fashion, food and beverage, entertainment, consumer goods, education and lifestyle. As the festival evolves across successive editions, participating brands will have opportunities to develop creative collaborations, deepen relationships with regional communities and establish long-term value within a growing entertainment platform.

Together, SEAEF and PLAY UNION are committed to establishing SEA ESPORTS GAMES & FESTIVAL: UNION® as an enduring regional platform connecting competitive esports, gaming communities, entertainment and commercial partnerships. With the 11-nation championship providing the competitive foundation, the festival creating new avenues for participation, and UNION’s integrated digital platform enabling continued engagement beyond the event, the initiative aims to build a connected ecosystem that brings Southeast Asia together through competition, culture and play.
