Hollywood celeb Alec Baldwin finally spoke up after the tragic shooting incident occurred on Thursday on the set of the movie, Rust.
It can be recalled that Alec accidentally fired a prop gun while filming at Bonanza Creek Ranch, near Santa Fe in New Mexico, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza.
The actor took to social media and said, “There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours.”
He continued on and added, “I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.”
According to Variety and IndieWire, a Hollywood union confirmed in a memo to its members that the weapon contained a single live round.
Halyna was then rushed by helicopter to University of New Mexico Hospital, but died from her injuries, while Souza was transported by ambulance to Christus St Vincent Regional Medical centre to undergo treatment.
Halyna’s husband, Matthew Hutchins, paid tribute to his late wife by posting a heartfelt message on Twitter.
The post read, “Halyna inspired us all with her passion and vision, and her legacy is too meaningful to encapsulate in words. Our loss is enormous, and we ask that the media please respect my family’s privacy as we process our grief. We thank everyone for sharing images and stories of her life.”
Matt also wrote, “Thank you to Halyna’s friends and mentors at AFI for establishing a scholarship to honor her memory and support aspiring female cinematographers. Anyone seeking to honor her memory, please direct your giving to this fund.”
Meanwhile, the Santa Fe New Mexican confirmed that Baldwin was seen distraught while on the phone outside the sheriff’s office headquarters when the accident took place.
