Unlike previous years, there are no household names like Lea Salonga, Erik Santos, Regine Velasquez, etc.
Instead, Aliw Awards 2022 focuses on making the rising and seasoned performers of the live entertainment industry get a bigger spotlight.
Most of biggest stars of Aliw Awards 2022 may be novel names when it comes to mainstream punto-de-vista, but their talent can rival seasoned performers’, because a good number of them have been in the business for more than a decade already. They are: 2022 Entertainer of the Year Gerald Santos, Carla Guevara Laforteza, Jade Riccio, Kathy Hipolito Mas, Shiela Valderama Martinez, Kea Chan, Jon Joven Uy, Nina Campos, and Lubang Island’s Occidental Mindoro Panda.
“The journey from the first Aliw Awards in 1975 was fraught with challenges but thank God, we have overcome it,” said founding president Alice Reyes in her opening remarks.
The award-giving body is the toast of the live performance industry not just because of the career boost it gives one after winning, but because of the creative production numbers between sets of awards.
The most coveted distinction, only next to the Hall of Fame Award, is the Lifetime Achievement Award, and the recipients this year were: John Lesaca, Nanette Inventor, Vic del Rosario Jr., and Jay Enriquez.
Joe Maria Hillario directed the live presentation while Joey Nombres, famed for his talent in lighting design, directed the TV coverage.
The Aliw Awards Foundation is headed Alice Reyes, together with the officers and trustees: Aristeo Garcia, First Vice President Brian Lu, Second Vice President Tess Tan, Secretary Francia Conrado, Treasurers Joey Nombres and Dennis Aguilar, PRO Jose Dadulla Junior, Auditor Rema Manzano, Ex-Officio Trustee and Trustees Ofelia Cajigal, Aisha Reyes, Birdie Reyes the Third and Jory Reyes.
The awarding ceremony was held last December 5 at the Manila Hotel and was hosted by Evangeline Pascual and Yohann Enriquez.
