This Easter Sunday, American Idol is offering viewers a spiritually uplifting experience like no other. On April 20, the hit competition series will air a special three-hour âSongs of Faithâ episode in honor of the Resurrection, featuring performances from beloved Christian artists and this seasonâs Top 20 contestants.
With powerhouse vocals and heartfelt testimony, the evening promises to be a celebration of faith in Christ, hope, and the unifying power of music during Holy Week.
Headlining the worship night are Grammy-winning gospel singer CeCe Winans and contemporary worship artist Brandon Lake. Winans, whose stirring vocals and timeless gospel hits have touched generations, returns to the Idol stage following her standout performance last seasonâan appearance that became one of the showâs most-viewed moments online.
Meanwhile, Lake, a prominent voice in modern worship music, will team up with Jelly Roll to perform their soul-stirring duet, Hard Fought Hallelujah.
Also joining the Easter celebration are American Idol alum Roman Collins, gospel quartet The Brown Four, and artist in residence Jelly Roll, known for his gritty, heartfelt storytelling. Their performances will be interwoven with those of the Top 20 contestants, who will each deliver a faith-inspired song live before a national audience.
These emotionally charged renditions will not only showcase vocal talent but also offer a window into the contestants’ personal journeys of faith.
Judges Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan will step out from behind the panel for the night, each offering performances rooted in their spiritual backgrounds. Underwood, a longtime advocate for keeping her Christian faith at the forefront of her music career, became visibly emotional in a recent episode after two contestants, Breanna Nix and Rylie OâNeill, sang Lakeâs Gratitude.
âIt is a brave thing to do because there are a lot of outside forces that are going to tell you not to,â Underwood said, commending them for openly worshipping on national television.
Faith has been a recurring theme in Season 23 of American Idol. Contestants like Canaan Hill, who aspires to be a pastor, and Baylee Littrell, son of Backstreet Boysâ Brian Littrell, have not shied away from using the stage to express their beliefs. Their authenticity continues to resonate with audiences who have long seen Idol as a space where personal conviction and musical passion can coexist.
The episode will open voting immediately following the broadcast, as viewers across the country cast their votes for their favorite performances. With every note sung and every story shared, American Idol‘s Easter special aims to remind viewers of the beauty of faith and the joy of community.
Tune in to ABC at 8/7c this Sunday, April 20, for a night of unforgettable worship and praise. Whether you’re a longtime gospel fan or simply seeking encouragement this season, American Idolâs âSongs of Faithâ special is set to deliver a powerful message of having faith in the Lord wrapped in song.
