The upcoming animated musical David is proving to be a remarkable theatrical success even before its wide release, with domestic pre-sales surging close to $6 million. The impressive early numbers place the film ahead of every previous Angel Studios theatrical release, underscoring strong audience enthusiasm for values-driven storytelling rooted in faith, courage, and hope.

Set for its U.S. theatrical debut on December 19, 2025, David brings the biblical story of the shepherd boy who becomes a king to life through animation and music. The film’s momentum reflects not only the popularity of the story itself, but also growing confidence from exhibitors and audiences who have embraced Angel Studios’ consistent commitment to uplifting, family-friendly entertainment.
Building on its domestic success, Angel Studios has unveiled its most ambitious international rollout to date. The film is scheduled to open across 43 international markets between late 2025 and early 2027, beginning with Portugal, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Lebanon, Singapore, and several African markets. Major releases will follow throughout Europe, Latin America, and Asia, ultimately reaching Japan on January 1, 2027. This expansive release strategy highlights the universal appeal of David’s journey and the confidence global distributors have in the film’s resonance.
Jared Geesey, Angel’s EVP and Head of International, described the rollout as a milestone for the company, emphasizing that David speaks to audiences across cultures because of its timeless themes. Courage in the face of fear, faith under pressure, and hope against overwhelming odds are woven into the narrative, making the story relatable far beyond its biblical origins.

The film’s creative team adds further weight to expectations. Directed by Phil Cunningham and Brent Dawes, and featuring music by Joseph Trapanese, David blends cinematic animation with a sweeping musical score. The voice cast includes GRAMMY-nominated artist Phil Wickham alongside Brandon Engman, Brian Stivale, and Miri Mesika, bringing emotional depth and authenticity to the characters.
At its heart, David tells a story that begins in quiet devotion and rises to a defining moment of courage. Armed with faith rather than force, a young shepherd confronts Goliath, setting in motion a journey that tests loyalty, love, and obedience. The film presents this well-known account with fresh creative energy while remaining faithful to its core message.

As Angel Studios continues expanding its theatrical slate with projects spanning multiple genres, David stands out as a defining release. With pre-sales nearing $6 million and an unprecedented global rollout underway, the animated musical is positioned to become one of the most impactful faith-based films in recent years.
