The biblical tale of King David is now reaching audiences worldwide through House of David, an eight-episode series streaming on Amazon Prime starting February 27.
This highly anticipated production brings to life the journey of David, from his humble beginnings as a shepherd, his relationship with God, to his rise as one of Israel’s most revered kings.
Directed by Jon Erwin (Jesus Revolution, I Can Only Imagine) and Jon Gunn (The Case for Christ, I Still Believe), House of David is a cinematic retelling that balances biblical accuracy with emotional depth.
Gunn emphasized the responsibility of handling such an important story, ensuring that historical elements remain intact while adding layers of human relatability.
Michael Iskander leads the cast as David, portraying the legendary figure’s courage, faith, and internal struggles. Reflecting on the role, Iskander shared that embodying David’s character was both thrilling and daunting. He expressed his deep connection to the story, citing The Chosen as a major inspiration for his desire to bring biblical narratives to life.
“I’ve always wanted to be part of something like this,” he said. “Playing David has taught me about bravery—not running from fears, but facing them head-on, just as he did.”
The series delivers powerful battle sequences, including the legendary face-off between David and Goliath. Martyn Ford, known for Mortal Kombat, portrays the Philistine giant, adding an intense physical presence to the role.
Ford explained that House of David provides more context to Goliath’s character, showcasing him not just as a towering enemy, but as a man with motivations and a backstory.
The production team embraced a grand cinematic approach, using breathtaking landscapes and high-quality CGI to immerse viewers in the world of ancient Israel.
From David’s anointing by the prophet Samuel (Stephen Lang) to his years of exile and ultimate kingship, every moment is designed to feel both historically rich and emotionally compelling.
With the success of The Chosen and other faith-based projects, House of David arrives at a time when audiences are seeking more biblically inspired content.
Fans have praised the series for its authenticity and attention to detail, noting that it captures not only the drama and action of David’s life but also the deep spiritual themes that define his story.
The series also explores key figures surrounding David, including King Saul (Ali Suliman), Queen Ahinoam (Ayelet Zurer), Jonathan (Ethan Kai), and Abner (Oded Fehr). These characters add depth to the narrative, portraying the complex relationships that shaped David’s journey.
House of David is more than just a historical epic—it’s a story of faith, resilience, and divine purpose. Whether viewers are drawn by the action, the storytelling, or the spiritual themes, the series promises to captivate audiences with its powerful depiction of one of the Bible’s most enduring figures.
