The Met Gala has long been a stage for show-stopping fashion moments, but this year, two familiar faces will be noticeably absent. Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, often dubbed Hollywood’s golden couple, have reportedly decided not to attend the 2025 Met Gala.

Their absence has fueled speculation, but sources close to the couple maintain that the decision was made well before recent legal developments.

According to reports, Lively and Reynolds finalized their plans to skip the prestigious event months ago, despite their ongoing legal dispute with Justin Baldoni, Lively’s It Ends With Us co-star. The legal tensions, which surfaced publicly in recent weeks, have led some to wonder if the drama influenced their Met Gala plans. However, insiders insist that the couple’s absence is purely coincidental.

This marks the third consecutive year that Lively and Reynolds will not be gracing the iconic Metropolitan Museum of Art steps. Their last appearance dates back to 2022, where they not only attended but co-chaired the gala, captivating fashion enthusiasts worldwide. Lively, in particular, delivered an unforgettable fashion moment in a transformative Atelier Versace gown, which paid tribute to the Statue of Liberty with its dramatic color change and intricate detailing.

For many fans, Blake Lively is considered a Met Gala favorite — her imaginative and meticulously crafted looks consistently rank among the evening’s highlights. Dubbed the “Queen of the Met,” her decision to bow out this year has left a noticeable gap in the event’s anticipated fashion lineup.

Family priorities have increasingly taken center stage for the couple in recent years. In 2023 and 2024, they also chose to skip the event, preferring to spend quality time at home with their four children. It’s a shift that reflects a broader trend among some high-profile celebrities, opting for private moments over public appearances.

This year’s Met Gala theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style is a celebration of creativity and craftsmanship within the menswear tradition. The dress code, designed to encourage imaginative interpretations, is expected to produce another dazzling evening of sartorial innovation.

Co-chairs for the night include acclaimed actor Colman Domingo, racing champion Lewis Hamilton, and music icons A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams, alongside Vogue’s Anna Wintour.

While the red carpet will no doubt shine with other luminaries, Lively and Reynolds’ absence is a reminder of how personal and professional developments can quietly shape public schedules.

Though their legal entanglements with Baldoni remain ongoing, their withdrawal from this year’s festivities seems rooted more in a conscious lifestyle choice than any immediate controversy.

As the Met Gala approaches, fashion watchers will still have much to celebrate. Yet for many, the glamour of past moments — like Lively’s breathtaking 2022 gown or the couple’s effortlessly charming appearances — will linger fondly in memory. Their absence this year speaks to the evolving nature of celebrity life: one that occasionally prioritizes private peace over public spectacle.
