A renewed hunger for Scripture is sweeping across generations, and a bold new documentary aims to meet that moment head-on. CBN Films, in partnership with Fathom Entertainment, is bringing Oracles of God: The Story of the New Testament to theaters on November 2, 3, and 5, offering audiences a cinematic journey into the origins of the Gospels. With Bible engagement climbing and younger generations leading the resurgence in church attendance, the documentary arrives at a time many describe as spiritually historic.

Recent data from the Barna Group reveals a striking trend: Gen Z and millennials are now attending church more regularly than their parents and grandparents, signaling what researchers call a “generational reversal.” This surge in spiritual curiosity is mirrored in booming Bible sales, which jumped 22 percent between 2023 and 2024. The Wall Street Journal even dubbed the moment “a golden age of Bible publishing,” reflecting a broader cultural return to foundational faith questions.

Oracles of God steps directly into that movement, exploring how the four Gospels were written, preserved, and passed down across centuries. The documentary untangles the story behind the world’s most read and debated spiritual text, presenting historical evidence, archeological findings, and expert insights in a compelling and accessible way. Its goal is not simply to recount history, but to immerse viewers in the weight and wonder of it.

Helming the project is Erin Zimmerman, a four-time Emmy-nominated director who began production in 2017. The film, paused for several years due to pandemic disruptions, now emerges with uncanny timing. “The film’s release couldn’t have come at a better moment,” Zimmerman said in a press release. “People around the world are rediscovering the message of the Bible and looking to the story of Jesus for hope and purpose. Oracles of God reveals how that story was first recorded and passed down to us.”

CBN President Gordon Robertson, who serves as executive producer, echoed that sense of urgency and purpose. To him, the film is more than a documentary—it’s a testimony to Scripture’s enduring power. “The New Testament changed history; it changed lives; and is still changing lives today,” Robertson shared. “That’s why we made Oracles of God. This film will show you the drama, the danger, and the divine power behind the greatest book of all time. You won’t just watch history… you will feel it, you will live it, and you will never forget it.”

The film also features respected New Testament scholar Dr. Craig Evans, who emphasizes the importance of credible evidence in faith conversations. He notes the documentary leverages manuscripts, early written references, and archeological records to trace biblical authenticity with clarity. “The evidence from manuscripts, early citations, and archaeology points clearly to the New Testament arising from the first generation of Christians,” Evans explained. “Oracles of God presents this evidence in a way that speaks to all generations hungry to understand the story of Jesus.”

As faith interest intensifies around the world, Oracles of God offers more than answers—it invites reflection, rediscovery, and genuine encounter with the origins of the Gospel.
