Christian Music Returns to Spotlight with Billboard Hot 100 Hit

The Billboard Hot 100 welcomed a long-absent genre back into the spotlight this month: Christian music. For the first time in over a decade, two faith-driven songs are charting simultaneouslyâBrandon Lakeâs âHard Fought Hallelujahâ and Forrest Frankâs âYour Wayâs Better.â
Lakeâs powerful anthem currently sits at No. 44 after peaking at No. 40, while Frankâs upbeat yet reverent track has risen to No. 62 in just its second week. It marks a pivotal moment for contemporary Christian music, which has largely stayed on the fringes of mainstream chartsâuntil now.
The genreâs return isnât a random fluke. Brandon Lake, known for his raw, faith-filled performances, has built a steady momentum since 2019. With over 40 entries on the Hot Christian Songs chartâincluding six No. 1sâhis impact is undeniable. âHard Fought Hallelujah,â now in its 11th week on the Hot 100, blends worshipful lyrics with soul-stirring vocals and features a stirring collaboration with Jelly Roll.
âCollaborating with Jelly Roll on this track was powerful,â Lake shared in a previous interview. âWeâve both walked through valleys and know the strength it takes to lift a hallelujah when itâs not easy. Thatâs what the song is aboutâfaith that perseveres.â
Meanwhile, Forrest Frankâs journey to the Hot 100 is equally remarkable. Originally known as one half of the pop duo Surfaces, Frank transitioned to Christian music in 2022. Since then, heâs emerged as a prolific artist in the genre, with 34 songs charting and a debut solo album, Child of God, holding the No. 1 spot on Billboardâs Top Christian Albums chart for over 34 weeks.
His latest hit, âYour Wayâs Better,â has resonated across social media, especially on TikTok, where its hopeful message and catchy melody have found a devoted audience. Itâs a modern worship song for the digital ageârelatable, uplifting, and grounded in biblical truth.
In 2024, Frank was awarded GMA Doveâs New Artist of the Year and used the spotlight to redirect praise. âEverything I do is for the Lord,â he said during his acceptance speech. âMy name will fade, but the name of Jesus will remain forever.â
This chart milestone isnât just significantâitâs historic. Billboard notes that only 11 Christian songs not tied to holidays or hip-hop crossovers have ever made the Hot 100 since 2013. With Lake and Frank both charting, itâs only the second time since then that two Christian songs have shared space on the chart.
Behind the scenes, labels like Provident have played a pivotal role. By investing in younger artists and digital strategies, theyâve tapped into a new generation of believers and seekers. âWeâve focused on giving space to voices that authentically reflect faith today,â said Mat Anderson, VP of Marketing & Brand Strategy.
With Christian music gaining traction among younger audiences and mainstream platforms, itâs clear that these recent chartings are more than just isolated victories. They represent a growing hunger for music that speaks to faith, hope, and the enduring message of Jesus Christ.
