Breanna Nix has secured a spot in the Top 8 of American Idol 2025, following a standout performance that earned the praise of all three judges. The May 5th episode highlighted songs inspired by iconic women in music, with guest mentor Miranda Lambert guiding contestants. Lambert also celebrated the 20th anniversary of her hit “Kerosene” with a powerful live performance.

The night also featured a return appearance by American Idol winner Abi Carter, who performed her new single, “Burned.” The results of America’s live vote were revealed at the end of the show by host Ryan Seacrest.

Breanna Nix, a stay-at-home mom from Denton, Texas, took a bold step by performing Adele’s “Water Under the Bridge,” moving away from her usual gospel roots. Her performance was met with enthusiasm by judges Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie.

Underwood called the performance a “perfect moment,” praising Nix’s look, sound, and commanding stage presence. Bryan remarked on her vocal strength, especially in the latter half of the song, calling it a “perfectly well-done” performance. Richie added that she made the Adele song her own, applauding her emotional depth and musical command.

Throughout the competition, Nix has openly expressed her Christian faith, often giving glory to God for her progress. Despite facing online criticism related to her appearance and song choices, Nix has remained grounded. She previously opened up about the challenges of being a Christian artist in a mainstream spotlight, sharing how some viewers questioned her faith because of her performance style.

“I had a comment that said, ‘She’s not a Christian anymore,’” Nix revealed in an earlier episode. “It devastated me.” Yet, she continues to find strength in her calling and trust in God. “To God be all the glory,” she wrote in a Facebook post after her Top 8 announcement. “The growth I’ve experienced — both personally and artistically — has been life-changing.”

In contrast, Canaan James Hill’s elimination marked a bittersweet moment for fans. The Alabama teen and aspiring preacher had consistently impressed with his soulful gospel performances throughout the season. Known for his heartfelt delivery and strong stage presence, Hill chose to perform “Love Wins” by Carrie Underwood in his final episode.

The performance showed a different, more mainstream side of him, but also revealed his internal struggle with stepping outside his comfort zone. “We could tell you were always second guessing yourself,” Bryan commented. “But always continue to push yourself when you hit the stage.”

As American Idol narrows down its finalists, Breanna Nix stands as a testament to resilience, faith, and the power of staying true to one’s values in the spotlight. With her deep-rooted faith and growing confidence, she continues to inspire viewers across the nation.
