In an event held last Wednesday, October 26, Bengzon talked about the motivations behind his most recent undertaking.

He said it started off with his wife attending a similar project. “And then may lumapit sa amin and told us that the Rotary Club of Makati Circle of Friends had a breast and cervical cancer prevention program.”

Bengzon shared that health is one of his top advocacies. He said he automatically agreed to the proposal and partnered with the organization to bring the program to Tanauan.

He discussed how the program can be beneficial to the women of Tanauan through the free breast and cervical cancer screening, among other initiatives.

“These days kasi, it’s hard to get check-ups. And it’s very expensive too. Eh ‘yung program nila libre ‘yung screening. If ever mag-positive ka for breast or cervical cancer, they’ll pay for your medication also. So it’s really a big help for the people here in Tanauan and the other towns they visit.

“They don’t only do screenings, they also teach the barangay health workers. So the knowledge of the barangay health workers that they learn in the seminars, they are able to extend to the people around the barangay. So isang malaking tulong na ‘yun para sa mga tao kasi aware na sila eh,” he adds.

Bengzon says that the project, as a result, encourages and gives people the confidence to avail of the check-up. 86 Tanaueñas were given the first screening tests during the event followed by a free seminar on breast and cervical cancer prevention.

The councilor acknowledged his partners in this initiative: Rotary Club of Makati – Circle of Friends Charter President Nelia Cruz Sarcol, Project Chairs Ms. Christine Dizon Bacareza and Mr. Gerald Hidalgo, as well as medical doctors from the Philippine Cancer Society who made the activity possible.

The event was also attended by Miss World Philippines Tourism 2022 Bb. Justine Felizarta who helped with the promotion of their advocacy.
