Fans of biblical storytelling have reason to celebrate as Dallas Jenkins, creator of The Chosen, brings his next ambitious project to life. Joseph of Egypt, an eight-episode limited series, has officially begun production in New Mexico and will debut exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. The series promises a cinematic retelling of one of the most iconic Old Testament stories, blending faith, drama, and world-class storytelling.

The official logline offers a glimpse of what audiences can expect: “In this iconic Old Testament story, betrayed by jealous brothers, Joseph defies all expectations and rises to incredible power in Egypt, second only to Pharaoh. But when his past catches up with him, he is confronted with the ultimate test.” Jenkins, alongside a team of seasoned producers and creatives, is poised to deliver a series that is as visually compelling as it is emotionally resonant.

Adam Hashmi, known for his work in Bridgerton and Criminal Record, has been cast as Joseph. Joining him are Alexander Siddig (Foundation, Shantaram) as Jacob, Babak Tafti (Succession, Billions) as Simeon, Daniel Peera (The Cleaning Lady, NCIS) as Reuben, and Iris Bahr (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Svetlana) as Leah. This ensemble brings together a blend of emerging talent and acclaimed actors, ensuring that the story’s emotional depth and dramatic arcs are fully realized.

Behind the camera, Craig Wright serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner, with Jenkins acting as executive producer under his 5&2 Studios banner. The production team also includes Brad Pelo, Mark Sourian, Ryan Swanson, and Tyler Thompson as executive producers, signaling a collaboration built on experience and vision.
Joseph of Egypt is part of Amazon Prime Video’s expanding Christian and faith-based catalog. Jenkins’ partnership with Amazon MGM Studios, announced earlier this year, encompasses streaming rights to The Chosen, as well as future projects like The Chosen with Bear Grylls and The Chosen Adventures. Prime Video is also home to other faith-based dramas, including House of David, creating a dedicated space for audiences seeking stories rooted in Gospel history.

Jenkins first revealed plans for the Joseph series during ChosenCon in 2024, hinting at a broader “Bible universe” akin to a cinematic franchise. “We do hope that someday we’ll be able to make some announcements about expanding this Chosen universe and Bible universe and telling more stories beyond just the Gospels,” he shared, emphasizing the long-term vision behind his projects.

For viewers, Joseph of Egypt represents both a return to a beloved biblical narrative and a fresh, cinematic experience that promises to blend faith, artistry, and drama. With production underway and an ensemble cast ready to bring Joseph’s journey to life, anticipation is building for a series that could redefine biblical storytelling on the streaming stage.
