In a bid to encourage learners to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle as directed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the Department of Education (DepEd), in partnership with Nestlé Philippines, expressed support to the Nestlé Wellness Campus Program at Taguig Integrated School on Tuesday.
“The partnership of DepEd and Nestlé Philippines is more than a contract; ito’y isang pangako para sa kinabukasan ng ating mga mag-aaral. Together, we aim to nurture champions—champions in sports, champions in academics, and champions in life,” Education Secretary Sonny Angara said.
Sec. Angara was accompanied by Mr. Laurent Freixe, CEO of Nestlé S.A., Mr. Remy Ejel, Executive Vice President of Nestlé S.A., and Mr. Kais Marzouki, Chairman and CEO of Nestlé Philippines, and Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano during the school visit.
Angara also took the time to chat with local DepEd officials of Taguig and checked the Gulayan sa Paaralan of the said school.
The Nestlé Wellness Campus Program, established in 2013, is the flagship advocacy aimed at educating children and their families on healthier food choices and lifestyle habits.
The program is implemented across various regions, including NCR, CALABARZON, Bicol, Eastern, Central, and Western Visayas, North Mindanao, and Davao.
The program will provide modules for Grades 1 to 10, focusing on nutrition, physical activity, and reading food labels. Additionally, activities such as the Wellness Song and Dance aim to promote physical fitness among students, parents, and teachers.
Facebook communities also support the wellness of DepEd educators and parents, while inter-school and inter-region competitions recognize schools, divisions, and regions for impactful wellness activities.
The event was graced by DepEd Assistant Secretary Cilette Liboro Co, Nestlé Philippines Senior Vice President and Head of Corporate Affairs Jose Uy III, and other officials from DepEd and Nestlé Philippines.
