Shanghai Fashion Week 2025 dazzled the global stage with a compelling blend of heritage, technology, and innovation. Under the theme “Rebuild the Unknown,” this season spotlighted nearly 100 runway debuts, hundreds of exhibitions, and a dynamic trade show attracting over 200 brands from 34 countries.
The event reinforced Shanghai’s standing as Asia’s leading fashion hub, balancing tradition with futuristic ambition.
The week opened with a high-profile show by EP YAYING, whose theme of “Elegance” unfolded across three narrative chapters: Ya Realm, Ya Melody, and Ya Motion.
The brand collaborated with cultural artisans—Miao paper-cutting artist Yang Jinqiu and Suzhou embroidery expert Zou Yingzi—highlighting a strong appreciation for Chinese craftsmanship. Their work reframed traditional art through modern silhouettes, presenting a vision of femininity rooted in quiet strength and refinement.
EP YAYING further elevated the experience with “Peony Dream,” a fashion art exhibition curated in collaboration with designer Huang Wei. The exhibit, filled with peony motifs and jade elements, underscored the brand’s enduring dedication to cultural storytelling.
Another breakout was Ao Yes, a rising label that collaborated with Zara for a capsule collection. Its approach fused Eastern aesthetics with minimalist tailoring, introducing a new standard of intellectual elegance. Their work attracted attention from younger audiences and industry veterans alike, positioning Ao Yes at the forefront of modern Chinese design.
Mark Gong also turned heads with a collection inspired by early-2000s celebrity tabloid culture. While known for streetwear, Gong opted for pared-down, sharply tailored silhouettes that referenced the so-called “bad girls” of the paparazzi era. Bold, striking, and visually ironic, the show merged nostalgia with critique, wrapped in sophistication.
Technology met fashion on the NMTG runway, where humanoid robots walked alongside models. Partnering with Unitree Robotics, the brand introduced AI-powered robot dogs and a cyber horse installation. The show imagined a futuristic city where fashion interacts seamlessly with artificial intelligence, pushing the boundaries of runway presentation.
Commercially, the Mode Shanghai exhibition was a major highlight, spanning 15,000 square meters and featuring a strong international presence—over 57% of the brands came from outside China. Notable country pavilions included South Korea’s MIK Fashion, showcasing 12 brands, and the Thai government-backed “Bangkok Showroom” with 16 fashion and lifestyle labels.
Adding to the momentum were high-level industry figures like Deary Raphael from Printemps Paris and Ash Ghazali of Club 21, emphasizing the global attention Shanghai now commands. As the event evolves, its role extends beyond fashion—it’s a statement of urban capability, creative power, and commercial clout.
From heritage revivals to robotic catwalks, Shanghai Fashion Week Fall 2025 reaffirmed its global significance through a tapestry of tradition, innovation, and market potential. Despite economic pressures, the creativity and determination on display solidified Shanghai’s position at the cutting edge of global fashion.
