Jake Cuenca finally spoke up on the police car chase incident that occured on Sunday, October 9.

In an interview with ABS-CBN, Jake shared that he was on his way to Paulo Avelino’s house when it happened, and said that he was very traumatized afterwards.

“It was very traumatizing. I’ll be very honest na I think yung hindi nasasabi minsan kasi, in the middle of the car chase, in the middle na hinahabol ako ng unmarked cars and pinagbababaril ako ng… At that point, I didn’t know they were undercover cops.”

At that time, Jake thought that the police were shooting at him and not at the tires of his car and stated,  “For me, at that moment, I was thinking… I was fearing for my life.”

Jake was able to claim his vehicle but the gunshot holes are still visible, in fact, one almost hit the car’s gas tank.  He also pointed out that he did everything the officers told him to do and that he followed due process.

It can be noted that the police stressed that Jake allegedly hit a policeman’s car but refused to stop his SUV after he was being chased. Unfortunately, a Grab driver was shot by a stray bullet during the incident.

Jake then elaborated “When I have civilians flagging down my car, armed civilians flagging down my car with unmarked vehicles, my instinct talaga was to not stop, just to go forward, to just get away from trouble.”

Meanwhile, actor and Jake’s friend Paulo defended the Los Bastardos star from accusations about his condition when everything occurred that night. “I wouldn’t stop for anyone shooting my vehicle wearing civilian clothes. [Did he] pass through a checkpoint? Was he blocked? If someone was shooting me it’s either I shoot back or run for my life. Wrong place, wrong time.”

He also addressed questions such as whether Jake was drunk and replied, “Drunk? No. Did he drink? Maybe. Did he hit someone? Hurt someone? No.”

In spite of everything, the celeb will not be pressing charges and assured that he will do what he can to assist the Grab driver that was injured.

“Despite the police taking that responsibility, I also want to extend my hand in any way, shape, or form. If I can help him and his family, I am willing to do that.”
