John Wick 4 had a huge weekend at the box office. Keanu Reeves’ action film broke its own franchise box office record, scoring over $73 million dollars on its opening weekend.

For content, the first John Wick opened to $14 million in 2014 and it only got bigger from there. Even with a 2 hour and 49-minute runtime, audiences still flocked in to the theater for the latest John Wick, which scored “95% fresh” on review agreggrator website Rotten Tomatoes.

The franchise is due for a spinoff on the streaming service Peacock. The long-gestating John Wick prequel is titled The Continental and will have three episodes.

The Numbers, a statistical website which focuses on box office records analytics, ranked Reeves as #9 on its current ‘Highest Grossing Stars at the International Box Office’ list. Those who preceded him are Lei Jiayin, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shen Teng, Salma Hayek, Tom Holland, Jackson Yee, Dave Bautista, and Brian Tyree Henry.

John Wick 4 centers around the protagonist’s revenge against the High Table, and in the process, he encounters his old friend Caine (Donnie Yen), a blind High Table assassin, in a not so ideal circumstance.

The film budgeted around $100 million began its principal photography on June 28, 2021. Filming took place in France, Germany, Japan, and New York City. John Wick 4 is expected to be available on the streaming service Amazon Prime Video starting May 23, 2023.

On Rotten Tomatoes, Reeves’ top 10 movies based on the “fresh” percentage of critics’ consensus are ranked as follows: Toy Story 4 (2019); John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023); Speed (1994); Parenthood (1989); Much Ado About Nothing (1993); John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum (2019); John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017); Always Be My Maybe (2019); The Matrix (1999); and River’s Edge (1987).

Reeves is a Canadian actor who had his breakthrough role in the science fiction comedy Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989) and went on to do the its sequels. He is known not just for his iconic roles but for his support to many charities and causes.
