This November, Julien’s Auctions heads to Dodge City in “Gunsmoke & Western Legends Auction Featuring Arness, Weaver, and Reynolds,” the industry leading entertainment auction house’s salute to the long running classic television series and Hollywood’s greatest western legends taking place Friday, November 15th, 2024 for the first time at the world famous Hollywood Museum in the historic Max Factor Building, home of the largest collection of Hollywood memorabilia in the world in Hollywood, California.
This exclusive auction event rounding up a coveted collection of original costumes, props, memorabilia from Gunsmoke’s extraordinary two decade run features over 230 items direct from the Estate of James Arness being offered for the first time at auction, as well as collectibles from two of the show’s other legendary cast members, Dennis Weaver and Burt Reynolds.
The television phenomenon starring James Arness as Marshal Matt Dillon, the lawman sworn to maintain law and order in the American frontier town of Dodge City, ran from 1955 to 1975 with Arness appearing in most of its 635 episodes–one of the longest tenures in Hollywood for any actor in a single role. For his iconic role, Arness received three consecutive Emmy nominations for lead actor in a series and many accolades such as a star on the Hollywood Walk of fame and rankings on PEOPLE magazine and TV Guide lists as one of the top television stars of all time.
Gunsmoke received worldwide critical and popular acclaim and smash ratings, winning 15 Emmy Awards and iconic status as one of the longest-running and top rated prime-time television shows of all time. The show’s enduring popularity continued into the next decades with five made-for-TV movies starring Arness as Marshal Matt Dillon in Gunsmoke: Return to Dodge (1987), Gunsmoke: The Last Apache (1990), Gunsmoke: To the Last Man (1992), Gunsmoke: The Long Ride (1993) and Gunsmoke: One Man’s Justice (1994).
