Social media was stirred up by what happened to a golden retriever dog named Killua, after it was mercilessly killed by a neighbor of its fur parent “Vina Rachelle” from Camarines Sur.
“Mahal na mahal ko yan. We found his lifeless body inside a sack 😭😭,” captioned Vina Rachelle in her Facebook post along with photos of her pet when they were still together.
As a result, #JusticeForKillua is trending on X, and netizens are calling on the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) to investigate and hold accountable the person responsible for the dog’s death.
Meanwhile, because netizens are flocking to the comment section of their posts even if they are unrelated to Killua, PAWS has also issued a plea to help them get in touch with Killua’s fur parent.
Aside from netizens, prominent celebrities in the country have expressed their support and called for justice not only for Killua but also for other animals experiencing cruelty.
Popstar Royalty Sarah Geronimo-Guidicelli was the first to post about this issue.
“This news is extremely heartbreaking. Walang kalaban-laban ‘yung aso. Katulad nating mga tao, nakakaramdam din sila ng takot at sakit. Every life deserves respect and protection. It’s time to demand accountability and raise our voices against animal cruelty,” Sarah said.
“Let’s unite in being the voice for the voiceless. Killua.. we will fight for you,” she added.
Kapuso star Carla Abellana also made a plea regarding the issue, especially since she is known as an advocate for animal welfare.
“#JusticeForKillua will be given soon. You’ll see,” she said in the series of Instagram stories.
“Dogs are our friends. Not dinner. Help us end the dog meat trade for good.”
In another post, “Luck isn’t always on animals’ sides. Around the world, animals are suffering from unimaginable cruelty. But right now, there’s hope.”
Kapamilya actress Chie Filomeno expressed sadness after seeing everything posted by the mourning fur mom.
“I just saw everything… Nadurog ang puso ko.. #JusticeForKillua,” she posted on X.
Kapamilya star Janella Salvador, who mourned the loss of his pet dog, also expressed dismay.
“People don’t deserve animals. Ang sakit sakit sa puso. These psychos better end up in jail. #JusticeForKillua #JusticeForErika.”
Kapuso trivia master and TV host Kim Atienza also expressed his disappointment and even shared a trivia about golden retrievers.
“Golden retrievers are the most gentle of dog breeds. The perpetrator’s claim that Killua was attacking his family is highly unlikely. Dog cruelty happens more often than we think, lalo na sa Aspin. Rest well Killua. #justiceforkillua.”
In accordance with the Animal Welfare Act of 1998, the torture, maltreatment, and killing of any animal are strictly prohibited.
Hence, in her privilege speech, Senator Grace Poe called on the Senate to further strengthen the Animal Welfare Act due to the worsening cases of animal cruelty not only towards pet dogs but also towards other animals.
