New Shows and Movies coming to Netflix in May 2021!

It should come as no surprise that people have been so hooked with what Netflix has to offer. Since most of us are all stuck at home during the pandemic, we’ve turned to this streaming service to keep ourselves occupied.
Who wouldn’t want to binge watch? There is a wide variety of award-winning movies, shows and documentaries on Netflix that can certainly distract us from all the hoopla surrounding the pandemic.
Having that said, we’ve rounded up new shows and movies coming to Netflix this year.
Jupiter’s Legacy’
Streaming date: May 7
Hollywood hunk Josh Duhamel plays the role of Sheldon Sampson in the fantasy drama series, Jupiter’s Legacy. Sheldon, who is the head of the Sampson family, is an ageing superhero struggling to keep up in a modern world. He, alongside his wife Grace portrayed by Leslie Bibb, do what they can to keep their families intact, in spite of new threats they have to face. The couple’s children must now live up to their legacy to make the world a better place. The show is based on the comic book written by Mark Millar and Frank Quitely, and will be available for streaming on May 7, 2021.
‘The Upshaws’
Starts date: May 12
American actor and stand-up comedian Mike Epps stars in the highly anticipated series, The Upshaws. Mike plays the role of Bennie, a kind but overwhelmed mechanic from Indianapolis, who tries to take care of his family – including his ex mistress. Notwithstanding their ‘colorful’ personalities, the whole family is willing to work together in order to strive for a better life. The show was created and co-produced by Wanda Sykes and Regina Hicks, who are also showrunners on the series. Kim Fields, Page Kennedy, Diamond Lyons, Khali Daniya-Renee Spraggins, Jermelle Simon, Gabrielle Dennis, and Journey Christine will also be a part of the show.
‘Oxygen’
Starts date: May 12
Mélanie Laurent depicts the role of Elizabeth in the French sci-fi thriller, Oxygen. Elizabeth is a scientist who wakes up in a cryogenic chamber with no memory of how she got there. To make things worse, Elizabeth also suffers from memory loss and is warned by artificial intelligence that the chamber is running out of oxygen. She later on realizes that the only way to survive is to contact the outside world and to remember who she is. The film is directed by Alexandre Aja, a French genre filmmaker, best known for films such as High Tension, Piranha 3D, and Crawl.
‘The Woman in the Window’
Streaming date: May 14
Amy Adams portrays the role Anna, an alcoholic agoraphobe, in the Alfred Hitchcock-influenced thriller, The Woman in the Window. Anna is convinced that she witnessed a murder, however no one seemed to believe her story – not even the police. She then gets sucked into a situation that she can’t get out of. The film also includes veteran actors Gary Oldman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Julianne Moore, and Wyatt Russell. The movie is based on the novel by A.J. Finn, then later on directed by Joe Wright and written by playwright Tracy Letts.
“Army of the Dead“
Streaming date: May 21
Army of the Dead stars retired professional wrestler Dave Bautista, who plays the role of Scott Ward, a leader of a team of mercenaries. Following a zombie outbreak, the group of mercenaries head to Las Vegas to pull off a casino heist. Other cast members include Tig Notaro, Ella Purnell, Ana de la Reguera, Omari Hardwick, and Dave Bautista.The movie was written and directed by Zack Snyder, and is, without doubt, one of the most highly anticipated films set to air on Netflix. Army of the Dead is scheduled to be released digitally on Netflix on May 21.
