PBBM instructs DepEd to uphold rights of educators in National Teachers’ Day celebration

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr. on Thursday committed to support the Department of Education (DepEd), especially the teachers, during the 2024 National Teachers’ Day celebration at the Araneta Coliseum.
“So, as we lay down the groundwork for a more resilient sector, I enjoined DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara, along with our government agencies, to continue improving the quality of education, uphold the rights of our teachers and adapt to the ever-evolving needs of our economic landscape,” President Marcos, Jr. said in his message.

“To our teachers, keep shaping our students who will not only face the uncertainties of today, but will also embrace the opportunities of tomorrow, our future rests in your hands. This administration trusts that you will help us build the Bagong Pilipinas that we all aspire to achieve,” His Execellency added.
President Marcos, Jr. likewise emphasized his administration’s assistance to the teachers, including the Expanded Career Progression System, increase of teaching allowance through the Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act, salary increase, and medical allowance.

The President graced the event with First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, who is also an educator herself, teaching law subjects in different parts of the country. Futhermore, the First Couple also handed out roses and gifts to a representative teacher of every region as a symbol of appreciation and admiration of the government to their profession
Education Secretary Sonny Angara reiterated the marching orders from the President to take good care of the public school teachers.
“Isa po sa pinakauna niyang sinabi sa akin, alagaan natin ang ating mga guro, mahalin natin ang ating mga guro dahil sila ay nasa puso ng ating sistemang pang edukasyon,” Secretary Angara noted.
Sec. Angara also expressed his gratitude to the House of Representatives, led by House Speaker Martin Romualdez, who was also in attendance.
The day-long festivities at the Big Dome featured the performances of various artists and celebrities, including Coco Martin, Donny Pangilinan, Belle Mariano, Piolo Pascual, Gabby Concepcion, El Gamma Penumbra, among others.
