Luxury With A Mission
Beneath the iridescent surface of beautiful pearls and jewellery, there lies a profound commitment to raising awareness about the challenges the pearl farming industry faces due to climate change. Rising ocean temperatures, ocean acidification, and extreme weather events have severely impacted Akoya pearl oysters, with over 80% of these magnificent creatures falling victim to these environmental challenges. Akoya Pearls, renowned for incredibly high lustre and sourced from the serene waters of Japan’s four distinct seasons, now teeter on the edge of extinction due to the impacts of climate change.
To combat global warming and protect Akoya pearl oysters, one of Pearl FALCO’s efforts is launching “The PEARL Plant-A-Tree Project,” a crowdfunding initiative that aims to plant trees, engage in reforestation, and mitigate climate change.
Maiko Makito, Co-Owner of Pearl FALCO, passionately advocates for this initiative, stating, “Our family has cherished the legacy of pearls for generations. Beyond crafting exquisite jewellery, we are dedicated to preserving the environment and the culture of pearls. The PEARL Plant-A-Tree Project is our way of giving back to nature, a vital part of our heritage in the light of this festive season.”
The entire yield from the pearl farming operation is sustainable, as non-jewellery quality pearls, oyster shells, and oyster flesh find purpose in goods like medicines, cosmetics, clothing, buttons, fertilisers, fish food and Pearl Green Tea.
A Commitment to Sustainability and Knowledge Sharing
Like many precious moments in life, each pearl is unique and her deep love for pearls and the industry has prompted Maiko Makito to share her knowledge and passion through Pearl Appreciation Workshops.
Pearl FALCO’s vision of globally sharing its deep knowledge through workshops and seminars, now offers an exclusive, personalised and memorable experience, Private Pearl Soirée, allowing guests to learn about the history, the agriculture background, the long term sustainability efforts and immerse themselves in Pearl FALCO’s finest pearls and accessories while crafting their own luxury pearl jewellery.

APPENDIX – About The Festive Collection
Unlike their freshwater pearls, the Akoya Pearl oysters rarely produce more than two pearls per harvest – making each pearl unique.
How harvesting works is each oyster is nucleated with a bead composed of mother-of-pearl and a small piece of mantle tissue and this bead becomes the nucleus of the pearl which is why Akoya Pearls produced seem to be perfectly round. Their almost perfect circular shape combined with the high-lustre and sheen found on top-quality Akoya Pearls, and their rarity compared to freshwater pearls, is what makes Akoya Pearls higher in value.
