PRINT FAIR+@GAS LAUNCHES MONTH-LONG CELEBRATION OF PRINTMAKING THIS MAY

This May, it’s all about prints at Print Fair+@GAS. Held at Gravity Art Space (GAS), this month-long festival celebrates the ever-evolving world of printmaking, spotlighting its growing relevance in contemporary art and the artists who are constantly pushing its boundaries.

Printmaking in the Philippines is experiencing a creative renaissance. Recent landmark exhibitions such as Chances of Contact: Contemporary Prints from the Philippines and Singapore from the collection of the Singapore Tyler Print Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila, Manuel Ocampo’s Ideological Mash-Up/Remix at Art Fair Philippines 2025, and Perspectives in Printmaking—a collaborative effort between Fundación Sansó, the Cultural Center of the Philippines, and the College of Saint Benilde—have shone a well-deserved spotlight on the medium.

Print Fair+@GAS opens on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 6 PM, with four exhibitions:

  • Hybrids and Beyond – An expanded printmaking exhibition exploring forms and techniques beyond traditional paper formats. Participating artists include Annatha Lilo, Angela Silva, Angelo Magno, Elmer Borlongan, Ged Merino, Gerardo Jimenez, Glenn Martinez, ND Harn, Hannah Nantes, Joey Cobcobo, Kristen Cain, Marika Constantino, Plet Bolipata, and Villia Jefremovas.
  • Graphic Protests – A powerful showcase of activism through prints, featuring works by members of Prints Para sa Bayan, TKTK Feminist Printmakers, Anton Villaruel, Bry Barrios, FM Monteverde, Leonard Aguinaldo, Raphael Reyes, and Resty Cruz Flores.
  • Enmeshed – An all-serigraphy exhibition that explores the range and versatility of silkscreen printing. Participating artists include Jose “Chong” Ardivilla, Maya Muñoz, Noell El Farol, Salvador “Buddy” Ching, and Wesley Valenzuela.
  • Hyperlocal – A print exchange featuring ten artists who are either deeply engaged in printmaking or just starting their journey in the medium. Featuring Lymuel Bautista, Kristen Cain, Joeffry Pradas Casan, Sel Dulnuan, John Melvin Garcia, Hannah Nantes, Leah Samson, Jm Valenciano, Melissa Yeung-Yap, and PG Zoluaga

These exhibitions will run from May 2 to 16, 2025, and will be followed by a Print Market on May 17, 2025 in between the two exhibition dates—a great opportunity for visitors to start or grow their own fine art print collection.

The second wave of exhibitions opens on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at 6 PM, which will run until May 30, includes:

  • Island Impressions – A regional showcase featuring printmaking groups outside Metro Manila. Participating collectives and studios include BIE (Luzon), ILCP (Dumaguete), Grupo Balhag (Bacolod), Kikik Kollective (Iloilo), Pasilyo Press (Zambales), PLELEMUDA (Mindanao), and Hiugyon (Iloilo).
  • Prints: Language and Interpretation – A group show by teaching faculty exploring the expressive and communicative potential of print as a medium.
  • Marzing Machine Print Exchange: Hyperlocal – After its successful debut at the Luzon Art Fair, the Marzing Machine returns with its first themed miniprint exchange. Featuring works by over 35 artists, this exhibition explores the theme of “Hyperlocal”—rooted perspectives in each artist’s respective locales.
  • KILOMETER 1476 – A major highlight of the fair, showcasing the vibrant and diverse printmaking scene in Davao. Participating artists include Alynnah Macla, Clem Huerte, Ivan Sepelagio, Tatu, Gubb, Juan Atienza, Mahaviir Ramirez, Oani Jester, Patrik Government, Paupau, Shai Ancheta, Sola, Sut, Paul Aman, Reagan Deiparine, and Taj Hassan Tadeo.

Print Fair+@GAS is also a timely celebration of Print Day in May, an international day recognizing printmaking held every first Saturday of May. From exhibitions to a print market, the festival is a reflection of the renewed interest in Philippine printmaking since the pandemic. For updates and event schedules, follow Gravity Art Space on social media or visit: https://www.facebook.com/gravityartspace
