REPERTORY PHILIPPINES SET TO STREAM ‘THE QUEST FOR THE ADARNA’ ON MAY 22, 2021

Theatre fans are in for a treat! Repertory Philippines will be streaming The Quest for The Adarna in a 24-hour stream from May 22, 2021 (10 AM Philippine time) until May 23, 2021 (10 AM Philippine time).

The story takes place in the Kingdom of Berbania, a land ruled by King Fernando and Queen Valeriana. The King’s sons Prince Pedro, Prince Diego, and Prince Juan, must head to Mount Tabor in order to capture a mythical bird, Adarna, as their father’s mysterious illness can only be cured by its song.

In an exclusive interview with Showbizbeat.com, Repertory Philippines’s Artistic Director Liesl Batucan shared how she felt as to how the theatre company was able to keep afloat in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Repertory Philippines has been producing theater for 54 years now, in an unbroken tradition of artistic excellence. To be able to continue to forge on, amidst the pandemic, is a blessing that we do not take for granted.”

“We have a responsibility to forge ahead, and we do so with passion, as we continue to carve out ways to press forward and create art, and stay connected to our audiences and communities,” she added.

The veteran actress also emphasized how REP is adjusting to a tech-saturated world. “We have smoothly re-calibrated our programs and productions to the digital platform, migrated our REP Workshops for the Performing Arts online, and launched our brand of original virtual content called REPisodes.”

“We are streaming our multi-award-winning original musical The Quest for The Adarna. And we are currently in pre-production preps for the filming of our next REP Theater for Young Audiences online production.”

REP Theater for Young Audiences’ critically-acclaimed original musical is written by Luna Griño-Inocian, with original music by Rony Fortich. The creative direction is done by Joy Virata, with co-direction by Jamie Wilson and Naths Everett.

The cast includes Carla Guevara-Laforteza as the titular Adarna, Arion Sanchez as Prince Pedro, Sean Nolasco as Prince Diego, Diego Aranda as Prince Juan, Noel Rayos as the Hermit, Jillian Ita-as Princess Maria Blanca, Raymond Concepcion as King Fernando, and Naths Everett as Queen Valeriana.

They are joined by ensemble members JP Ortenero, Nicole Herrera, Chesko Rodriguez, Deo Dela Cruz, Dindo Divinagracia, Moira Lozada, Joni Galeste, Chesca Ostrea, Pauline Jaravata, and Matthew Barbers.
