Rock Legend Alice Cooper Shares How God Miraculously Freed Him from Alcohol Addiction

Alice Cooper, a name synonymous with rock and rebellion, stunned the world when he openly shared how God miraculously delivered him from alcohol addiction. Known for his theatrical performances and shock-rock persona, Cooper’s battle with substance abuse was as intense as his stage presence.
However, his transformation from a hard-partying musician to a devoted Christian is a story of divine intervention that continues to inspire many.
In the 1970s, Cooper was at the peak of his career, performing alongside legendary artists like Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix. The rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle came with excesses—drugs, alcohol, and reckless living. He recalled drinking heavily, unable to control his addiction. “I didn’t have an off switch,” Cooper admitted in an interview. “And finally, it caught up with me.”
His destructive habits took a toll on his health. One morning, he woke up and vomited blood. His wife, Sheryl, witnessed it for the first time and immediately confronted him. With a firm yet loving stance, she declared, “Party’s over.” Cooper’s manager, Shep Gordon, joined the intervention, making it clear that they could no longer stand by and watch him self-destruct.
During his stay at the medical facility, something extraordinary happened. After just two days, Cooper felt completely different. He expected the usual withdrawal symptoms, but instead, he experienced an overwhelming sense of relief. “I came out of there, never once had a fallback,” he shared. “Never fell back on alcohol. Never fell back on drugs.”
Even his doctors were astonished. They told him that relapse was almost inevitable, especially given the severity of his addiction. But Cooper knew the truth—God had completely removed his desire for alcohol and drugs. “People say, ‘You’re a cured alcoholic.’ And I go, ‘No, I was a healed alcoholic,’” he emphasized. “God took it away from me. It’s a miracle.”
As time passed, even medical professionals who initially doubted his recovery admitted that something supernatural had taken place. “Everything about your life should be deception,” they told him, referring to the common pattern of addicts pretending to be sober while secretly struggling. But in Cooper’s case, there was no deception—his healing was real.
Now, decades later, Cooper remains sober and happily married to Sheryl, celebrating nearly five decades together. He credits his faith for saving him and sees his journey as a testimony of God’s power. “When the Lord opens your eyes and you suddenly realize who you are and who He is, oh, it’s a whole different world,” he reflected.
Today, Cooper uses his platform to warn others about the dangers of addiction and the reality of spiritual warfare. “Be careful! Satan is not a myth,” he cautioned. “I think my job is to warn people about Satan.”
His story is a powerful reminder that no one is beyond redemption. For Alice Cooper, true freedom didn’t come from fame or fortune—it came from God’s miraculous grace.
