“I will never be a meme again!” American singer, actress, businesswoman, and producer Selena Gomez was aware that her face was being used in several memes, showing her scrunched face in apparent disapproval at Chris Brown’s nomination for Best R&B, but smiling and putting together her hands for the other artists in the category.

Gomez was one of the artists who attended the much-talked about 2023 MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) on Tuesday night, September 12, where she accepted the Best Afrobeats alongside Rema for their collaboration song entitled “Calm Down.”

Cameras didn’ tell a lie, when they captured Gomez’ stunning face showing disappointment when Brown was announced as a nominee. “I will never be a meme again. I’d rather sit still than be dragged for being myself. Much love,” the award-winning singer wrote on her now-expired Instagram Story.

Reaction of Chris written on his Instagram Story after the news about it came out, “Let me mind my business.” Aside from her facial expression towards Chris, Selena was also spotted holding her hand to her ear while Olivia Rodrigo was performing “Vampire,” a performance that featured staged technical difficulties.  

The video clips were spreading on X (formerly Twitter) and netizens thought Selena was reacting to Olivia’s vocals or the set design.

During Olivia’s performance of her song, the stage appeared to malfunction, with a lighting rig collapsing from above and pyrotechnics exploding as Rodrigo was quickly ushered offstage. But all of these gimmicks were intentional. Still, people were shocked. Fans captured  Selena’s facial expression about it. 

Selena concisely shut down any allegation towards Olivia’s shocking performance. “I heard a loud noise and it scared me,” Selena commented underneath the BuzzFeed Celeb Instagram post about it. 

Another was her transparent reaction after discovering SZA, who had just won Best R&B, was absent at the show to collect her Moon Person award.

The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) is an annual awards show that celebrates outstanding achievements in the music video and music industry. The VMAs are presented by MTV, which stands for Music Television, a cable television network known for its focus on music-related content.

Going back to Selena, despite these incidents, no one can contest that she was very gorgeous and stunning that night. She was so glamorous wearing a red and black dress, separately. 

After the award’s night, Selena went bare-faced as she had a photo opportunity with her fans and supporters. 

While leaving New York City Hotel, she was seen wearing a casual and all-white ensemble, containing an oversized shirt unbuttoned with a plain t-shirt underneath which she paired with cargo-style pants. It can also be seen that there was a black wrist brace on her right arm.

While Chris Brown has enjoyed a successful career in music and entertainment, he has also faced various legal and personal challenges, including legal issues related to his 2009 assault of then-girlfriend Rihanna. 

A woman also accused Brown of sexually assaulting her in a hotel room in Paris, in 2019. The singer denied the serious accusation and filed a defamation complaint against the accuser. No charges were filed.

In the new lawsuit, the woman accused Brown that the singer called her after the incident and insisted that she has to take an emergency contraceptive pill to avoid pregnancy. His personal life and controversies have at times overshadowed his musical accomplishments.

That’s why, though there was no any report of encounter, dispute, fight, or feud between Selena and Chris, netizens speculated that the above-mentioned issues and controversies were the reasons why Selena does not appear to be a fan of Chris Brown, and she isn’t apologizing for it.

On the other hand, Selena Gomez is also an American singer, actress, and producer who gained fame as a child actress on the Disney Channel television series “Wizards of Waverly Place,” which aired from 2007 to 2012. 

She was born on July 22, 1992, in Grand Prairie, Texas, USA. Gomez’s career has since expanded beyond acting, and she has become a successful singer and entrepreneur.

As a singer, Selena Gomez has released several albums, including “Stars Dance” (2013), “Revival” (2015), and “Rare” (2020). Her music spans various genres, including pop, electronic, and dance music. Some of her popular songs include “Come & Get It,” “Good for You,” “Bad Liar,” and “Lose You to Love Me.”
