Singapore Baby Brand Nava Nest Champions Material Safety for Babies on BLW Day

As babies begin self-feeding, Nava Nest calls for greater transparency around the safety of everyday feeding essentials.

SINGAPORE, 1 JUNE 2026 — In conjunction with Baby-Led Weaning (BLW) Day, Singapore baby tableware brand Nava Nest is launching a public awareness initiative to encourage parents to pay closer attention to the materials used in their children’s tableware, and to demand greater transparency from baby product brands.
Co-founded by Singaporean parents in 2025, Nava Nest was born out of a common frustration at the family table: the need to choose among safety, practicality, and aesthetics during the weaning journey. The brand offers a range of porcelain and stainless-steel baby tableware, independently tested by SGS to FDA food-grade standards, providing families with a verified microplastic-free alternative to plastic and melamine products commonly found on the market.
The initiative launches on BLW Day, a milestone marking the transition to self-feeding for many babies, typically around 6 months of age. During weaning, babies do not just consume food; they also chew and interact directly with bowls, spoons, and plates, often while handling warm or acidic foods. This raises important questions about material safety, especially as studies continue to examine how certain plastics and melamine-based products behave under heat exposure.
“When I looked at what was available, I kept hitting the same wall: products that forced me to choose between safety, style, and practicality,” says Cheryl Ng, co-founder of Nava Nest. “The plastic and melamine options were functional but came with material concerns I couldn’t ignore. The beautiful ceramic pieces had no suction. Nothing did all three things well. My child deserves to eat from the same materials adults eat from, and that honesty was missing from the baby product space.”
Built on the principles of safety, functionality, and longevity, Nava Nest uses porcelain for bowls and plates, an inert, heat-stable material that does not leach chemicals, alongside stainless steel cutlery designed to support early self-feeding skills. All ceramic glazes are tested for leachable heavy metals, including lead and cadmium, and all silicone components are independently verified by SGS. A distinguishing design detail is the removable silicone suction base, intentionally engineered for both stability and hygiene: snug enough that a toddler cannot easily dislodge it during a meal, yet fully separable from the porcelain plate for thorough cleaning. As the child grows, the base can be removed entirely, transitioning the plate into everyday tableware that lasts well beyond the weaning stage.
“BLW Day is personally meaningful to us because it marks a milestone in our own parenting journey, the moment we became more conscious of what our child was eating from, not just what they were eating,” adds Cheryl. “Many parents are asking all the right questions about nutrition, but not enough questions about the materials touching their child’s food every day. That was the gap we wanted to address.”
To help parents make more informed purchasing decisions, Nava Nest is encouraging families to ask five questions before buying baby tableware:
- What materials is this product made of?
- Has it been independently tested by a third-party body?
- Does it contain melamine or plastic components?
- If it is ceramic, has the glaze been tested for heavy metal leaching?
- Is it designed for durability and long-term use?
As part of the BLW Day initiative, Nava Nest is spotlighting its core weaning range, designed for babies from six months through toddlerhood:
- Ceramic Bowl with Silicone Suction: SGD 32
- Ceramic Divided Round Plate with Silicone Suction: SGD 35
- Stainless Steel & Silicone Baby Cutlery Set: SGD 15
- Stainless Steel & Silicone Toddler Cutlery Set: SGD 18
- The Complete Weaning Set (includes all four essentials): Promotional price SGD 81 (usual price SGD 90)
The ‘Complete Weaning Set’ combines Nava Nest’s core feeding essentials in one bundle, featuring food-grade ceramic, BPA-free silicone, and 304 stainless steel. The set is dishwasher-safe and free from plastics, PVC, phthalates, lead, and cadmium.
“Parents deserve peace of mind when it comes to the products that come into contact with their baby’s food,” says Cheryl. “For us, transparency is essential. That is why we independently test our products and make the results available. The smallest seat at the table deserves the highest standard.”
