February 13, 2025 – The 75th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) opened in spectacular fashion, with some of the biggest names in cinema gracing the red carpet. Tilda Swinton, Timothée Chalamet, Emma Mackey, Vicky Krieps, and Lars Eidinger were among the stars making waves at the prestigious event, which kicked off with the world premiere of Das Licht (The Light) at the Berlinale Palast.

The Berlinale has long been a platform for groundbreaking films and artistic innovation, and this year’s edition is no exception. The opening ceremony was a grand affair, with festival director Tricia Tuttle and Jury President Todd Haynes setting the stage for what promises to be an unforgettable 11-day celebration of cinema.

Swinton, who received the Honorary Golden Bear for her outstanding contributions to cinema, captivated the audience with her grace and eloquence. 2. Timothée Chalamet

The Hollywood heartthrob turned heads as he attended the festival for the special screening of A Complete Unknown, where he portrays a young Bob Dylan. Chalamet’s charisma and undeniable talent have made him a Berlinale favorite, and his presence on the red carpet drew excited fans and photographers alike.

3. Emma Mackey

The rising star, best known for her breakout role in Sex Education, shined at the premiere of Hot Milk, a psychological drama exploring complex mother-daughter dynamics. Mackey’s sophisticated yet modern red carpet look cemented her status as a fashion icon and a formidable talent in contemporary cinema.

4. Vicky Krieps

The Luxembourgish actress, who has earned acclaim for her roles in historical and indie films, attended the screening of Hot Milk alongside her co-stars. Krieps, known for her subtle yet powerful performances, expressed her excitement about returning to Berlinale, a festival that has consistently supported independent storytelling.

5. Lars Eidinger

Meanwhile, Lars Eidinger, a key figure in Das Licht, delivered a commanding presence at the opening night screening. The film, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Tom Tykwer, explores themes of memory and perception, with Eidinger’s performance hailed as one of his most compelling to date.

Beyond the red carpet glamour, Berlinale 2025 promises a rich cinematic experience, with 19 films competing for the coveted Golden Bear. This year’s jury, led by filmmaker Todd Haynes, includes distinguished industry figures such as Fan Bingbing, Rodrigo Moreno, and Maria Schrader.
