Swifties were greeted with a sad news this Easter Sunday as several international entertainment news sites reported that Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn’s six-year-long relationship is over.

The primary source is ‘Entertainment Tonight’, who claimed the split happened weeks ago, with Taylor and Joe parting ways in good terms. The news outlet even highlighted the fact that Taylor went to her sold-out Eras Tour alone, with Joe nowhere in sight.

It was 2016 when the news broke out that the Grammy winner and the ‘Boy Erased’ actor were already in the dating stage. Even though there were articles about them left and right, Taylor and Alwyn chose to keep their relationship private.

‘E! News’ published a quote from their source about this level of privacy. “Taylor went to great lengths to keep their relationship private and out of the spotlight,” said the insider. They also published coordinated Instagram posts from the couples like their poses with the same giant cactus from 2018, as well as their similar snaps drinking white wine during quarantine in 2020.

Swifties theorize that there are lyrics in the song ‘Dress’ from Taylor’s 2017 album ‘Reputation’ mentioning how the former couple met. “Flashback when you met me, your buzzed cut and my hair bleached,” said the lyrics. Fans think that this describes Taylor’s bleached blonde bob she was seen with at the 2016 Met Gala.

2020 saw the start of their album collaborations, like ‘Folklore’ and ‘Evermore’ which were noticed by the Grammy Awards. In 2022, there were even rumors of engagement, with Joe giving a nonchalant answer to Wall Street Journal: “If I had a pound coin for every time someone told me I’ve been engaged…I would have a lot of pound coins.”

This February, the two were even spotted holding hands during the Oscars, that’s why it came as a shock to many Swifties worldwide, with some thinking it was an overdue April Fool’s day joke. Here are some of their reactions from Twitter:
