The Role Of The Holy Spirit
SHARE
The Holy Spirit is mostly brought up in the New Testament and goes by many names which are the Spirit of the Lord, Spirit of God, Spirit of truth, Spirit of Jesus, or Holy Spirit.
It is important to note that it is a fully divine Person of the triune God, apart from God the Father and God the Son. The Holy Trinity is one God, however, each of them have different roles.
The Holy Scriptures indicate that when the Lord created heaven and the earth, the Holy Spirit was very much part of the process.
But what exactly is the role of the Holy Spirit? Let’s find out!
1. He Is A Helper
The Holy Spirit was sent by God to teach and counsel all who follow Jesus. Christ was aware that he was going to be persecuted and crucified, therefore He made sure that during His absence the Holy Spirit would guide His people.
“The Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you” – John 14:26, ESV
2. He Knows What’s Yet To Come
The Holy Spirit knows what the future holds. One may call him the “Spirit of Truth” because He is able to show believers what is. Jesus once said that the Holy Spirit will speak what the Lord shall Speak.
“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you” -John 16:13-15
3. He Is A Giver Of Gifts
Some of the Holy Spirit’s qualities are manifested to the followers of Christ. These attributes include knowledge, wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, piety, and fear of the Lord. All these gifts are given to us so we will be well-equipped once we are set to praise God.
“Since the Holy Spirit is the one who shows or manifests God’s presence in the world, it is not surprising that Paul can call spiritual gifts ‘manifestations’ of the Holy Spirit” – I Cor. 12:7
4. He Helps The Weak
There are instances when a person is lost to the point that he/she does not know what to do. When one is about to give up, the Holy Spirit intercedes and helps people at their weakest moments so they can seek God.
“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God” – Romans 8:26-27
5. He Gives New & Eternal LIfe
It is important to note that the Holy Spirit will do anything to make us holy. He does his part by renewing and sanctifying the lives of people in order to achieve this. And just as He did with Jesus, the Holy Spirit will make sure that those who are qualified will be raised from the dead and will be given eternal life. -CHARLIE
“But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you” – Romans 8:10-11
6. He gives spiritual life
Not all humans believe that God exists – and this shouldn’t be so. We must praise the Lord, Jesus, Holy Spirit, and seek for our salvation; however, this may seem difficult since a lot of us are non-believers. Having said that, the Holy Spirit will do His part by trying to make people holy again.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit” – John 3:5-8
7. He transforms believers
We are all sinners. As much as we try to be holy, no one can obtain complete holiness. Nevertheless, the Holy Spirit still dwells in us. He does what He can to transform us so that we can continue to have faith in Jesus. Through the Holy Spirit, the power of sin is shattered and we become better individuals. .
“the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened” – Ephesians 1:17-18
8. He makes you more like Christ
What we Chirstians should remember is that we should all try to be more like Christ in every way. How does this happen? Well, the Holy Spirit has the power to change us. It is through the Holy Spirit that we can see what Jesus is like, which helps us become more like him.
“And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” – 2 Corinthians 3:18.
9. He helps you to do the Father’s will
Another way the Holy Spirit helps us is by giving us the willpower to do what we want or have to do. We can hear what God wants for us with the Holy Spirit’s guidance. We must listen and ask Him what the Lord wants us to achieve so we can follow through with it.
“Then the Spirit said to Philip, ‘Go up and join this chariot.” Acts 8:29
10. He gives people hope
Feeling hopeless? You need not worry. When you feel that all is lost, God will do everything to change that. He does this by giving the Holy Spirit the power to give us hope amid all our trials and tribulations. Once this happens, we will be given the motivation to soldier on despite all of the hurdles we are facing in life.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” Romans 15:13.
11. He guides your prayers.
Most of us turn to prayers when we feel like all is lost. However, there are times when we are weak and we do not have enough strength to pray. But because of the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we are able to think clearly and figure out what we want to pray for.
“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” Romans 8:26
12. He gives spiritual life
Not all of us are believers. Although, with the help of the Holy Spirit, our minds are illuminated and some even become followers of Christ. It is suddenly clear that apart from loving our Lord, our salvation and our spiritual life becomes a top priority.
So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” – John 3:5-8
13. He sanctifies you.
Lastly, the Holy Spirit does His part by sanctifying the followers of Christ. When this happens, believers are purified and washed aways of all their sins. This practically transforms them into a new person and makes them more Christlike.
“But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God,” 1 Corinthians 6:11.
