Met Gala 2023 celebrates the 65-year-old career of the late Karl Lagerfeld, the German fashion designer who contributed greatly in bolstering the Chanel brand as its creative director from 1983 until his demise.

From furry ensembles to boucle suits, Met Gala 2023 is a feast of Lagerfeld’s fashion evolution. Here are the top looks from the momentous event which do not only turn heads, but encapsulate the spirit of Lagerfeld’s couture.

Undoubtedly the royal couple of the night, Rihanna‘s flowery look was inspired by a 2009 Chanel couture show look influenced by paper flowers. Rocky, known as the ‘style god’ whenever he attends special occassions such as this, donned a signature Lagerfeld look, complete with a tartan kilt and an impeccably handmade blazer.

2. Jared Leto

Leto chose to honor Lagerfeld’s furry legacy by dressing up as the deceased designer’s beloved cat, Choupette. The 11-year-old blue-cream tortie Birman cat inspired Leto’s look which gives off campy mascot vobes.

3. Kim Kardashian

Kim‘s naked custom Schiaparelli dress accentuated by a pearl necklace and a cape won’t make you think that she’s already a mother of four. Apparently, the rumors about the Kardashians being banned from Met Gala 2023 weren’t true after all.

4. Jeremy Pope

The 30-foot monochrome cape of the Emmy award winning actor bore the designer’s face. It literally honored Lagerfeld in a large way.

5. Nicole Kidman

Pat Mcgrath, a legendary makeup artist, was behind this look which took over 10 hours to make.

Literally coming in as a cat for her first Met Gala, she sported an Oscar dela Renta gown which made her embody Choupette like Leto.

8. Jordan Roth

Mike Coppola

When one is a fan of Lagerfeld, one wouldn’t usually dress up as a fan. Yes, we are talking about that glam wedding accessory which doubles as an aid to fend off the heat in tropical countries. The head honcho behind 5 Broadway theaters showcased his affection for baroque craftmanship by wearing Lagerfeld’s favorite accessory as a top.
