The 2024 Met Gala red carpet has officially closed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and fashion’s biggest night has come to an end. This year’s exhibit, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” examines how technology can breathe new life into garments that are too old and fragile to be worn again.
Attendees graced the iconic steps of the museum adorned in attire paying homage to the event’s “The Garden of Time” dress code. You can explore all the ensembles from last night’s Met Gala 2024 right here.
The evening’s fashion theme draws inspiration from a J.G. Ballard narrative, featuring a count who, in a bid to stall an approaching angry mob, plucks a rose from his garden, causing time to slow until all the flowers vanish.
With the story’s dystopian essence aligned with the exhibit’s focus on the interplay between antiquity and modernity, the red carpet showcased a spectrum of styles, ranging from floral motifs to futuristic designs, and even subtle allusions to the tale of Sleeping Beauty.
Naturally, all the designated co-hosts of the 2024 Met Gala secured their spots on the prestigious best-dressed roster. Zendaya captivated with not just one, but two remarkable ensembles—featuring a bespoke creation by Margiela and a vintage Givenchy gown from the label’s spring 1996 collection.
Jennifer Lopez shimmered in a dazzling Schiaparelli gown, Bad Bunny made a statement in a sculptural Margiela suit, and Chris Hemsworth exuded sophistication in a sleek Tom Ford ensemble.
As expected, floral patterns emerged as the standout trend of the evening, with celebrities channeling haute couture bouquets in diverse interpretations. Nicki Minaj stunned in a Marni gown adorned with meticulously hand-painted metal flowers, while Gigi Hadid captivated in a Thom Browne ballgown featuring intricate three-dimensional floral embellishments.
Adwoah Aboah, on the other hand, showcased the most remarkable maternity style of the night, donning a red floral ensemble from H&M consisting of a crop top and a voluminous skirt.
There were also some unexpected and distinctly avant-garde highlights of the evening, demonstrating that the most fashion-forward celebrities weren’t exclusively clad in florals. Lana Del Rey, for instance, made a dramatic statement in a veiled ensemble by Alexander McQueen, complete with an antlered headpiece—an eloquent tribute to the late designer’s legendary fall 2006 collection.
Tyla opted for a bold transformation, resembling a sand sculpture in a form-fitting Balmain gown that hugged her like a second skin.
When it comes to highlighting some of the impeccably dressed men from the event, well-groomed gentleman such as Josh O’Connor (sporting Loewe), Morgan Spector (donning Willy Chaverria), and Stefon Diggs (stylishly attired in H&M) stood out in modern and suave tailoring.
In the meantime, Kim Kardashian sparked discussions for various reasons following her attendance at the gala.
The founder of SKIMS surprised onlookers with her gown’s remarkably slender, corseted waist, and raised eyebrows when she accessorized it with a cashmere cardigan. Nevertheless, her appearance at the event has since prompted speculation about cosmetic procedures, particularly regarding her hands.
Overall, the highly anticipated gala was a success.
