Rapper Travis Scott will cover the funeral costs of those who died at his concert, when fans surged toward the stage during the Astroworld festival on Friday.
According to a statement released by a representative for Travis, the musician is in talks with BetterHelp, an online counseling service, to provide free therapy to those who attended.
The musician uploaded a video on his Instagram stories and finally spoke up regarding the issue.
“ I just want to send out prayers to the ones who were lost last night. We’re actually working right now to identify the families so we can help assist through this tough time. You know my fans really mean the world to me and I always want to leave them with a positive experience. And anytime I can make out anything that’s going on, you know, I’ll stop the show and help them get the help they need. I could just never imagine the severity of the situation.”
Travis went on and said, “We’ve been working closely with everyone to just try to get to the bottom of this. City Houston, H.P.D, and the Fire Department, you know anyone who can help us figure this out. So if you have any information, please just contact the local authorities. Everybody continue to just keep your prayers. I mean, I’m honestly just devastated. I could never imagine anything like this just happening. I’m going to do everything I can to keep you guys updated and just keep you guys informed on what’s going on. Love you all.”
Meanwhile, his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, also took to social media to express how distraught they both were with what transpired.
“Travis and I are broken and devastated. My thoughts and prayers are will all who lost their lives, were injured or affected in anyway (sic) by yesterday’s events. And also for Travis who I know cares deeply for his fans and the Houston community.”
Kylie continued to clarify, “I want to make it clear we weren’t aware of any fatalities until the news came out after the show and in no world would have continued filming or performing. I am sending my deepest condolences to all the families during this difficult time and will be praying for the healing for everyone who has been impacted.”
In the wake of the tragic incident, questions were raised surrounding the security protocols at the venue. On November 8, Houston Police Chief Troy Finner confirmed that he met with Travis Scott and his head of security on Friday before the event took place.
It can be recalled that eight people between the ages of 14 and 27 died during the crowd surge.
