Filipino fans of the hit Broadway musical ‘Hamilton’ will now get a shot they shouldn’t throw away. UnionBank of the Philippines partners with the show’s producer, GMG Productions, and will organize an exclusive booking period so that its credit cardholders will be the earliest ones to get access to tickets.

Hamilton Australia Production

“We are absolutely thrilled that Hamilton will be making its Asian Premiere in Manila. We can’t wait for Filipino audiences to see this incredible show. We are also so excited to be working with UnionBank who have shared in our enthusiasm from day one,” said Bob Sewell, co-presenter of Hamilton in Manila and Producer at GMG Productions.

Lin-Manuel Miranda

The Lin Manuel-Miranda masterpiece will be staged in Manila, Philippines starting September 2023, at the Theatre at Solaire.

‘Hamilton’ is a sung through hip-hop musical, with many songs containing parts which are rapped, chronicling the rise and fall of Alexander Gamilton, the Founding Father of America who started came to the country as an immigrant and an orphan, and was instrumental in establishing the first national bank. Some songs have also jazz and R&B elements.

GMG Productions

Lin himself sent a video greeting for the Filipino audiences expressing his joy and excitement that the Asian Premiere of Hamilton will be in the Philippines. “We’ve had so many incredible Filipino company members part of the Hamilton pamilya (family) all over the world and now we get to bring the show to your beautiful country very soon,” he exclaimed. Of course, the successful Broadway artist ended his video with “mahal kita.”

The musical which had a humble origin as an Off-Broadway show has won 11 Tony Awards, and also conquered the Grammys as well as the Olivier awards since its 2015 Broadway debut. It has travelled all over North America, London’s West End, Puerto Rico, Germany, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, before coming to Manila.

Hamilton Australia

In March 2021, Hamilton had its southern hemisphere premiere in Sydney, and went on to tour Melbourne and Brisbane. In May, it will commence its premier world tour, which starts with Auckland in May.

With book, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, direction by Thomas Kail, choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and musical supervision and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire, Hamilton is based on Ron Chernow’s acclaimed biography.

Vishal Kadian, Cards’ Loans Head at UnionBank, seconds this sentiment. “We could not be prouder to partner with GMG Productions for Hamilton Manila’s pre-sale,” he said. “Along with being the Best Digital Bank, we are committed to offering our customers truly amazing and exclusive experiences, and this is just one of many to come.”

Anticipating sold-out shows, UnionBank will open the Hamilton exclusive booking period to its credit cardholders before the public ticket selling period starts on April 24, 2023. There will also be an extended pre-sale offered to both UnionBank credit cardholders and those who sign up for the Hamilton Waitlist. Follow UnionBank’s Facebook https://www.facebook.com/unionbankph/ and Instagram page https://www.instagram.com/unionbankph/ for further announcements.
