Filipino American Hollywood Star Vanessa Hudgens will arrive soon in the country to film a travel documentary centering on her Filipino heritage.
The shooting will take place in Palawan and this will be Hudgens’ first time to visit the country, the birthplace of her mother Gina Guangco. The film will showcase her close relationship with her family and her personal trajectory as an American born half Filipino woman who’s become one of the world’s recognizable stars. The 34-year-old actress shot to popularity after playing the character of Gabriella Montez in Disney’s High School Musical franchise.
Hudgens will be accompanied by her mother Gina and her sister Stella. The actress has spoken with pride about the biography of her mom who left the Philippines for the US at age 25. Hudgens says, “I feel ours is such a relatable story to so many women all over the world. The more that we can share, the more we can lift each other up.” The actress also shared the news on Instagram stating that she is “very excited about the project”.
The still untitled film following Hudgens’ life will be produced and directed by Paul Soriano, the Philippines’ Presidential Adviser on Creative Communications. Aside from his current position in the Bongbong Marcos administration, Soriano also is known as an experienced director and producer of his own production outfit, 1017p. He is also the husband of actress/host Toni Gonzaga.
According to Soriano, “We are honored to work with Vanessa for this film project. It’s inspiring to note that with everything she has achieved in life, she wants to discover her Filipino roots and pay homage to her mother’s country. Hopefully, this opens doors for many more collaborations to come.”
Hudgens’ most recent film is the Oscar-nominated film based on a Broadway musical, Tick, Tick… Boom! She began her career in musical theater at age 8. Some of her other film credits include Spring Breakers, Shelter, The Knight Before Christmas franchise, Princess Switch, and Bad Boys for Life. She’ll next star in the indie comedy French Girl and Michael Bay’s Bad Boys 4.
