Jesus and Beelzebul: When Truth Was Questioned

Why Easter Sunday Should Center on Jesus, Not the Bunny

Discover why Christians remember Easter Sunday as Jesus’ resurrection, not the bunny, and how this truth strengthens faith and reflects the gospel message.

For many people today, Easter Sunday has come to be synonymous with pastel colors, egg hunts, and the bunny itself. Although these icons of Easter may be quite enjoyable, it is easy to see how they might inadvertently take the focus away from what is truly important. For Christians, however, it is important to remember that Easter is not just a joyous holiday, it is the pillar of the gospel, built on the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

As mentioned in the Bible, “And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.” (1 Corinthians 15:17) This verse points out that the resurrection of Christ is not a trivial matter, it is the very foundation of faith itself. Without it, the possibility of attaining salvation and living in Heaven forever would be for naught.

As Christians, Holy Week allows for a moment of introspection and contemplation of Christ’s sacrifice and ultimate triumph over death and the grave. By recalling Easter in its true context, Christians are able to reconnect with the essence of their belief system, rather than being sidetracked by a holiday that has no true spiritual significance.

Cultural Symbols vs. Biblical Truth

The Easter bunny and Easter eggs have their origins in early springtime celebrations before Christianity. Although there is nothing wrong with these traditions, they can gradually move our focus away from the true meaning of Easter, if we begin to focus on them as our main symbol. Over time, what begins as a harmless symbol can unintentionally redefine how people understand the occasion, especially for younger generations who may grow up associating Easter more with treats and games than with its spiritual significance.

The church has consistently encouraged Christians to discern the difference between cultural expressions and biblical truth. Easter is not centered on symbols of fertility or springtime renewal—it is about redemption through Jesus Christ. In Matthew 28:6, the angel proclaims, “He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.” This declaration captures the very heart of the gospel—Christ’s victory over death and the fulfillment of God’s promise of salvation.

By keeping this truth at the forefront, believers can prevent Easter from becoming overly commercialized or spiritually diluted. Instead, it remains a sacred time grounded in the Bible, inviting Christians to reflect deeply on their faith and the eternal hope made possible through the resurrection.

Strengthening Faith Through Right Focus

Easter celebrated as a time of resurrection helps strengthen our spiritual point of view. It helps us realize that their hope is not in these temporary celebrations but in the eternal promise provided through Christ. It helps us develop a better understanding of the gospel and the purpose of Christ’s sacrifice.

Furthermore, teaching this message to future generations is a must. When families and communities emphasize the real meaning of Easter, they help preserve its spiritual significance. It ensures that the traditions do not replace the truth but the truth helps in understanding the traditions.

Ultimately, the recollection of the true meaning of Easter as a time of the resurrection of Christ inspires them to live with a purpose. It inspires them to think of their own faith, delve deeper into the Bible, and live with the hope of Heaven that has been provided through the resurrection of Christ.

In a world full of distractions, returning to this central truth keeps Easter meaningful, powerful, and aligned with what it was always meant to be.
