Zachary Levi on Embracing ‘Radical Surrender’ and Living Out True Faith

Actor Zachary Levi has long been vocal about his Christian faith, but his latest reflections bring a deeper perspective on the power of “radical surrender” to God’s plan. With his new film The Unbreakable Boy, Levi hopes to inspire audiences to embrace faith more fully, even when life takes unexpected turns.

Levi, best known for his roles in Shazam! and Chuck, portrays Scott, a devoted father navigating the challenges of raising a son with autism and brittle bone disease. The film, while centered on this specific journey, ultimately speaks to universal themes of faith, resilience, and trusting in God’s greater purpose. Levi believes this message is one that many need to hear.

“[I want audiences] to understand that when we radically accept and radically surrender to God’s plan for our life, even though it is drastically different sometimes than what we thought it was going to be, the amount of peace and love and joy that can flow from that,” Levi told CBN News.

Levi acknowledges that human nature often resists surrender. The instinct to wrestle with God’s plan, to hold onto personal expectations, can make faith feel like a struggle. However, he encourages people to step back and recognize that God’s knowledge surpasses human understanding. “God’s like, ‘Do you know that I know more than you?’” he said. “And it’s hard, because a lot of times it’s struggle that we’re going through. But there is light on the other side of the struggle.”

This theme of perseverance and faith is deeply embedded in The Unbreakable Boy. Levi describes the film as an honest portrayal of life’s highs and lows, blending moments of hardship with uplifting joy. “It’s humanity—good, bad, messy, beautiful—all of it,” he said. “It’s not just sunshine and butterflies and feel-good. Although there’s a lot of that in the movie too.”

While The Unbreakable Boy tells a unique story of a family dealing with specific medical challenges, Levi sees its message as much broader. “We’re all dealing with the human journey that we’re on,” he said. “And then, on top of all of that, to be able to tell a story so beautifully and authentically about a child with autism and navigating those waters was something that was, I think, sorely lacking in the landscape.”

Beyond the film, Levi continues to advocate for a faith that is lived out through action and trust. His own journey of surrender has not always been easy, but he sees it as the only true path to lasting peace. For those struggling with doubt or facing unexpected challenges, Levi’s message is clear: let go, trust in God’s plan, and allow His love to bring transformation.

In a world often filled with uncertainty, Levi’s words serve as a reminder that faith is not about having all the answers—it’s about trusting the One who does.
