Actress Kimberly Elise Shares Her Journey from New Age Beliefs to Faith in Jesus

From red carpet glamour to a quiet moment with the Bible, actress Kimberly Elise’s story is one of rediscovery, grace, and an unshakable return to her Christian roots.
Known for her compelling performances in The Manchurian Candidate and Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Elise recently opened up about her deeply personal journey of stepping away from New Age beliefs and finding peace in Jesus Christ.
Raised in Minneapolis, Elise recalls a childhood guided by Christian values but lacking deeper spiritual grounding. “We didn’t go to church, we didn’t study the Bible,” she shared in a recent interview.
At sixteen, she was baptized, hopeful and sincere, but without discipleship, she gradually returned to the ways of the world. Life carried her through college, marriage, and eventually to Hollywood, where her acting career took off.
Despite professional success, Elise sensed something was missing. “I didn’t know Jesus. I didn’t know the Holy Spirit,” she admitted, even while acknowledging that her talents were a gift from God. “There were certain things I would not and could not do because of the gift that God had given me.”
That quiet conviction lingered, but by 2019, Elise felt her spiritual compass was adrift. Deeply immersed in New Age philosophies—crystals, energy readings, and “the universe”—she described it as a “bottomless pit.” “It’s a constant search that never ends,” she said, “There is no truth in it, but it makes you think you’re close to something.”
Amid this inner conflict, Elise cried out in prayer: “Are you there? Do you see me? Do you love me?” Just two weeks later, God answered. She met a Christian woman, the mother of a friend, who told her something she desperately needed to hear: “God loves you. He hears you. He sees you.”
That moment lit a spark. Encouraged by the woman’s prayers and support, Elise began to search the scriptures herself. With no Bible at home, she went out, bought one, and googled, “Where do I start reading the Bible?” The answer led her to the Book of Matthew. “As I read the genealogy, it was just as clear as day—‘This is truth,’” she shared. From then on, she couldn’t put it down.
As Elise continued reading, understanding began to blossom. “God started showing me my sin—my pride, my ignorance,” she said. It brought her to her knees. “I just begged for His forgiveness.”
Her journey isn’t framed by spectacle, but by a quiet transformation fueled by scripture, humility, and grace. Today, Elise continues to grow in her faith, using her platform not just to perform, but to testify. Her story is a reminder that no search for truth is ever too far gone for God to reach in, answer a prayer, and light the way home.
