Benjamin Watson Pushes Back on Distorted Justice Narrative in New Podcast The Just Life

Christian Benjamin Watson, former Super Bowl champion and outspoken Evangelical leader, is taking his passion for justice to a new platform with his podcast, The Just Life. Rooted in the Old Testament verse Micah 6:8 — “Act justly, love mercy, walk humbly” — Watson’s podcast seeks to make justice a consistent part of daily life, rather than a reaction to headline-grabbing events.
For Watson, who spent 15 years in the NFL and now analyzes college football, justice is not a buzzword or a fleeting cause. It has been central to both his personal and family life, guiding his advocacy and shaping the way he interacts with the world. “Justice has always kind of been a thread in my life,” Watson shared. “It’s what leads my advocacy when it comes to the issue of life in the womb, when it comes to mothers, when it comes to racial justice in our country. Those sorts of things have always been important to me.”

Watson’s perspective on justice goes beyond national or political headlines. He points to experiences like a family mission trip to Israel with Compassion International, where he and his children witnessed poverty firsthand, as moments that expanded his understanding of justice as restoration. He also highlights work with organizations like International Justice Mission, protecting vulnerable children from exploitation, as examples of justice in action.
“I felt like I wanted justice to be an ongoing conversation and a way of life, instead of a reaction to a certain instance of injustice,” Watson explained. “We get riled up — and rightly so — about blatant acts of injustice. But Scripture talks a lot about living in a way that is girded in justice every single day.”

Throughout The Just Life, Watson emphasizes a biblical understanding of justice. The concept appears nearly 2,000 times in Bible, while the Hebrew word for justice appears around 400 times. For Watson, living justly means treating others with fairness, kindness, and love in everyday interactions, which, in turn, reduces the need for punitive measures.
The podcast covers a wide range of topics, from grassroots initiatives like feeding the hungry to advocacy on global Church persecution. Watson stresses that justice is inherently social, lived out in community, and grounded in biblical principles. “We need to be rooted in the text, and then we can be advocates and shine a light on justice,” he said.

Watson acknowledges that some Christians are hesitant to engage with the concept of justice, fearing it has been co-opted by political agendas. He pushes back against this notion, drawing a sharp distinction between cultural reinterpretations and biblical justice. “The world will always hijack what God has created,” Watson said. “But the world didn’t create the idea of justice.”
The Just Life features a diverse lineup of guests, including pastors, grassroots activists, survivors of abuse, and thinkers, each sharing their experiences and perspectives. Guests such as Lecrae, Dr. Cornel West, and Ruth Malhotra highlight issues ranging from mental health to speaking truth to power within Christian organizations. Watson hopes listeners leave inspired and challenged to engage with justice in practical, everyday ways.
Launching on September 2, The Just Life promises to offer a thoughtful exploration of what it means to live justly, encouraging listeners to act with fairness, compassion, and humility in all areas of life.
